CPU utilization for process setiathome_4.03_windows_intelx86.exe is running consistently at 99%+ on S@H with Boinc v4.09 and Windows Server 2003. Any ideas? This is not even when the screensaver is running, this is while I'm using the desktop! My Boinc general preferences are 'On multiprocessors, use at most: 1 processors'. 4.05 was doing this too. I'm using a fully-patched Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition O/S on an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ w/ 1GB RAM, 80GB disk. Mondoshawan @ 488°C |

First step ... in your BOINC client make sure you have selected "File > Run based on preferences". Second step ... on the Seti@Home BOINC web site you need to change your "Preferences - General", specifically: - Do work while computer is in use? no Third step ... also in "Preferences - General" set an appropriate idle time, for example: - Do work only after computer is idle for: 1 minutes **NB: this idle time is INDEPENDANT from the screen saver. I hope this helps. --- bt |

Check Preferences General primary Do work while computer is in use? If it is set to "Yes" Boinc will use all unused cycles (at a very low priority) If you want boinc to stop when you are using the machine for something else, change this to "No" |

Thanks for both replies but it looks like my General Preferences are not the problem: Do work while computer is in use? no Do work only after computer is idle for 2 minutes On multiprocessors, use at most 1 processors (these have been copied to seperate preferences for home, work and school settings, though all clients set to default (home)). More symptoms: - also ocurring on Boinc 4.05 as well, on a Win2K Pro SP4 install on a newish laptop. - where it's ocurring it's accompanied by Task Mananger processes named like the work unit(s) being crunched, (ex: setiathome_4.03_windows_intelx86.exe), in addition to the running process for the main Boinc exe (boinc_gui.exe)). (On boinc clients without the issue the only boinc process listed in Task Manager is the main Boinc exe (boinc_gui.exe)). - where it's occuring you can actually see the progress and to completion times for the work unit changing in the work tab of the boinc gui. (On boinc clients without the issue these numbers stay static when viewed in the boinc gui). thanks. Mondoshawan @ 488°C |

This should be fixed in some future version. Try deleting all of your venu specific settings, and just change the default settings. |
