I've tried searching a few different things but have not found a clear answer to my question. Is it possible to still use the old version of Seti@home instead of bionic ? My guess is no since whenever i try to run it i get the -26 error not being able to connect to the server, but i haven't read anything that says the old version does NOT work. I'm not really taking to the 3D floating menu very much, very much prefer the old flat basic classic version. Thanks. |

They have changed how they look and do much more science than that client could do...I liked old seti myself but we are stuck with Boinc now.... EDIT....Welcome to the Seti boards and I hope you stick around...Find lots of good info in the Crunchers Board... Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

Alright thanks for clearing that up, i don't mean to beat on a topic thats probably already been talked about but, personally i only use Seti@home and i don't use any other projects, but i mean i don't understand why they moved to a cartoonish looking 3D moving screen instead, just seems like it would be using up more system resources (although i know it really doesn't at least for my system) but why make things more complicated then it already needs to be, i wish seti would make it a option to use the old theme at least and implement it into bionic. |

Download the version without the screensaver it is faster, then run an optimised app and that is faster still....You can download optimised apps at http://calbe.dw70.de/seti.html Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... You can also configure the new screensaver to emulate the classic one. There is a web page somewhere with the instructions but I don't have the link handy. Basically, you go to the SETI@Home Project and Graphics Preferences page in your account and set the horizontal and vertical oscillation period to zero. This stops the swinging motion of the display. I don't use the screensaver unless I am showing off the project to someone else The "Classic" SETI was basically a screensaver that just happened to crunch numbers for one scientific project, namely SETI@Home. BOINC is a full blown scientific tool used to crunch numbers for various scientific projects of your choice, while incidently offering an optional screensaver. Shortly after BOINC was introduced, the original Classic servers were shut down and dismantled so those servers are no longer online to even connect to. BOINC uses an entirely different format which is incompatable with the classic SETI. Jim Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had. Is it possible to still use the old version of Seti@home instead of bionic ? Only if you kept a few seti classic work units to crunch... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |
