I'm just a simple single m/c single user helping to process seti@home data via BOINC - and have been doing that for a few years now! I'm now running Vista on my Toshiba laptop - and recently started getting the message that I was using the wrong url and I should consider detaching and reattaching to setiathome.berkley .... etc. (can't remember the rest as have lost the particular messages, derr)! So I waited till I had no work and nothing downloading and proceeded to try ..... oh dear, now I'm in a mess! I went up to seti and downloaded from there thinking it would solve my problem - but no, I ended up with two attachments to the same task ......... and now after aborting and detaching one of them I'm getting the message :- (error)Can't create HTTP response output file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome_5.27_windows It then continues with other error messages that I don't understand - HELP!?! Should I clear the whole lot out and start again (I actually did that tonight but it didn't help me):) From a despairing seti fan, buck.r |

I'm just a simple single m/c single user helping to process seti@home data via BOINC - and have been doing that for a few years now! Don't Panic too much, there are currently some download server problems. See this graph for more information. When the graph goes green again you should start seeing downloads. The graph also show the local time in Berkeley, California where the SETI project is based. The staff mostly keep office hours, so I hope to see some improvement in a few hours. BOINC has been reported to also have a few issues with Windows Vista. I don't use Vista myself, but there have been various work-arounds reported that seem to get over most of the problems. Look for threads with Vista in the title for more help. Sir Arthur C Clarke 1917-2008 |

I dont really understand this graph...why is the incoming so much more then the outgoing? Arent the WU files SETI sends out bigger then the results we send back? |

I dont really understand this graph...why is the incoming so much more then the outgoing? Arent the WU files SETI sends out bigger then the results we send back? "In" and "Out" are relative to the interface being monitored. It is entirely possible that data coming out from SETI is going in to this interface. |

I dont really understand this graph...why is the incoming so much more then the outgoing? Arent the WU files SETI sends out bigger then the results we send back? Simple answer, IIRC, is that the 'in' (green) is the data coming from the SETI servers and 'out' to us. The 'out' (blue) is the data being sent back by us after it is crunched. I'm just a simple single m/c single user helping to process seti@home data via BOINC - and have been doing that for a few years now! Thanks Keith - I was reassured and after a look at the Vista probs didn't see my particular one listed - so sat it out and voila! seems most of it was due to Seti/Boinc probs. and not ET after all! Still seem to be downloading double messages but just getting a single set of work units and I'm not game to try and sort that one out, lol - probably do more harm than good! Cheers, buck.r |
