Really good story on the BBC, See-saw to power African schools.
Now why didn't I think of that.

Reminds me of an article I read in a magazine a few years ago about a man with two overweight kids. They were overweight because they were diehard "couch potatoes", sitting around on the couch all day watching tv and eating snacks. He had tried every way he could think of to get them to get some exercise but they refused. So he came up with an idea.

If they were going to watch tv all day, they exercise for it. He hooked up a generator to an exercise bicycle and connected it to his tv in a way that the kids couldn't bypass (he cut off the cord to the tv and connected the generator/inverter/battery rig directly to the tv.) If they wanted to watch tv, they would have to pedal the exercise bike to be able to watch it. I think a half hour of pedaling would power the tv for about an hour. Finally his kids started loosing some weight! Hehe!

Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had.
Others live life day by day and look back at the wealth of experiences and enjoyment they've had.

A great idea. Games consoles should be made pedal power too :)
