Message 722021 - Posted: 4 Mar 2008, 21:57:57 UTC

I have an account here that I've had for years, but the email address associated with it is no longer valid (company went under).

I remember my email address and apparently my account from years ago here is still valid. The problem is, I don't remember what my password was from way back then.

The only way I can find to get my password, that I can find, is to have it emailed to the invalid address.

So Catch22, what can I do? I'd like to keep the old account because of the amount of processing time credited to it.

Thanks for any help.

(I created this account so I could post this question)

There are a couple of possibilities.

1) The old account is a Classic account and you have not ever activated it. In this case, you attach the Classic account to your current account.

2) You still have the original email with the account ID in it. You can use this to log on to the web site to set your password.

3) You still have a host actually running with the old account. In this case you can recover the account ID from the account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml from between the <authentictor> tags.

4) Beg the current owner of the domain to send you the one email. (this has actually worked a couple of times).

5) If the domain is not used, buy it for a year, it really isn't that expensive ($20 maybe, not quite certain).

If none of the above, you are in trouble.

How do I attach the account, through my account tab?

Probably. Go here and choose the link in the section "If you're already using BOINC".
