Bionic will no longer access the data base now unless I have Internet explorer running. My previous 5 port & 8 port running off my router worked just fine with no changes .Since installing a Linksys SR216 to replace the 8 Port Switch my problems started. What am I overlooking??BTW they are all Windows a mixture of ME & XP Pro . Thanks Al in Fishkill

Are the two switches uplinked properly? On many switches, the very last port is the uplink port to be connected to another device, such as another switch or a router.

Does each switch plug into the router itself, or does it go Router into switch into switch? If any of the switches are gigabit, the official 802.3u specification states that gigabit switches should go more than one deep. 10/100Mb switches should go no more than two deep.

I'd start by seeing of there is a problem with all PCs are if its just certain PCs off of one particular switch. If its all PCs, you may have a problem with your router. If its only off of one switch, its probably not uplinked properly. See if you can ping from a PC on one switch to a PC on the other switch. Do all PCs have a valid IP address? Or are they using APIPA? Can they all get to the internet? Or are some failing to connect?

That should give you enough to start with. ;-)

Hope that helps!

All the computers connected can connect to the net with IE.Boinc will not connect from any computer on the new 16 port switch (Linksys SR216) unless IE is running on that computer. There are no hardware or software settings on this switch. I can take it out and put the old 8 port switch in and everything works ,the 8 port also has no hardware or software settings. The signal flow goes from a computer to a 4 port router and then to my FIOS Internet connection.

That is strange. A standard network switch performs no blocking functions and as such shouldn't have a problem with specific applications attempting to transmit data.

I've researched that model in hopes of finding a clue, but it seems to be a standard commercial grade switch.

What happens if you take a PC that has problems connecting to BOINC from the new Linksys to your other 5 port switch? Does it work that way? Or is it still blocked?

If everything still works when connected to the 5 port switch, then everything points toward the new Linksys SR216 as having an issue. At that point, I would suggest calling Linksys technical support in hopes of finding an answer (though I hear Linksys hates having to explain the technical nature of its products to users).

OzzFan :I also believed the last port on the switch would go to the router but I think in this case it has to be port #1 ,I'm waiting now for BOINC to upload & down load with that port assigned to the router. I hope it is as simple as that!! Al in Fishkill

Once again good has conquered evil ! I assumed ,and you know what that means, the last port went to the router which my other 2 switches needed this one requires port#1 to go to the router. Problem solved ,its always the simple stuff that throws you a curve. Thanks for the assist.
