---> Suggestion to Web pages developer:

Add "Average number of results computed/uploaded/reported per day"

because many people confuse that to be equivalent to
"Average turnaround time"

Hmmm i sort of had the same idea accept i was wondering if it would be possible to add a function to BOINC (i.e. Skymap) to show users the areas in the night sky that return the most Gaussians & Pulses,i`m sure seti has a database with all this information on that could be uploaded to BOINC along with a workunit.

I ask this because i actually do wonder where seems to return the most results.
Maybe i`m dreaming but i thought i`d add my 2 pence worth anyways.

It's not a wise thing to add to BOINC as BOINC is used for a lot of other projects as well. What would a protein folding project need with a Skymap?
Which is why there are third-party programs for that. Look at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/addons.php for possibilities in that direction. Something like Seti@Home-Mapview would do what you ask for.
i`m sure seti has a database with all this information on that could be uploaded to BOINC along with a workunit.

It's already uploaded in the task. In the actual task itself it'll say where the shot was taken from. A program like Mapview can read that information.

You wouldn't want Seti to do more database access, not with the problems they have already.

Add "Average number of results computed/uploaded/reported per day"

That means that all projects should add a database entry telling the number of tasks done. Which is going back to Seti Classic days, where they'd do WU counting, instead of giving credit. BOINC has just gotten rid of the Wu counting, by deleting done work units (or results, or tasks) from the database so to save space and now you want it back in there? ;-)

I don't think it'll happen, but if you truly stand behind it, you can put an enhancement ticket in BOINC Trac with the question. You need to register separately at Trac.

@Ageless

Already used it and that only tells me the workunits i`ve done,i was talking worldwide, maybe the top hits of the day or best results of the day because lets be honest we wouldn`t be doing this if we weren`t interested in which area`s produce the most results.

Don`t you think that this also be more beneficial in recruiting more users to the project if only we could see that we are producing possible results and where the results are most concentrated? Credits are fine but lets be honest anyone who joins now has no hope of ever getting the type of ranks that members have earn`t from being members for years and years,as i said in a previous thread i`d need 30 systems running day and night to acheive anywhere near a rank of long term members, for me it`s not important but for some it is.

Even if it was web based it would be something but not to have it is a shame, also another suggestion....Classic SETI frequently appeared in PC mags cover CD`S can`t say i`ve seen BOINC on one though, maybe it`s time to make potential users aware ;-)

Top hits of the day is unlikely to happen. However, there are plans and current work toward getting a list of all time bets hits. The problem is that hits take observations on multiple days.

NO, NO, NO, NO

I'm saying
"WEB: Average number of results reported per day"

I mean that on THIS (setiathome.berkeley.edu) site
on "Computer summary" page
(http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=xxxxxxx)
next to the
"Average turnaround time X.xx days"
be
"Average number of results reported per day"

There is no need to keep "work units (or results, or tasks)" in the database.

How they count "Average turnaround time X.xx days"?

If they know how many days in Average (near past) pass
between sending and reporting the same tasks (by the given computer)
they know as well how many results are reported (by the given computer)
in the last few days (or weeks?, or monts?).

So just divide "number of results reported" / days

P.S.
I don't really need this myself
but there is huge misunderstanding on many posts in the forum
what "Average turnaround time X.xx days" really means.

(so people are angry for nothing)
("I return often but have low RAC, they return seldom and have high RAC - HOW IT CAN BE?")

Wish i knew how to answer your question,i get quite high RAC and i return often, probably not as often as you because have a slower CPU but at least once a day i return for a new workunit.

I`ve often found those with very high RAC often have 3 or more systems crunching and returning results or have quad core processors, hope you find the answers your looking for.

[EDIT :]

The current running average of credit earned by each Computer, Participant, or Team over time.

Think of it as a speedometer …

It tracks the rate at which you are earning credit with Credit earned today having more weight in the average than the Credit granted in the past; each day farther back the less impact on the "running" average

This is done so that the value does not jump up and down as Granted Credit events occur.

The Recent Average Credit is updated when Credit is added (from verified results). Recent Average Credit is computed by taking the Total Credit (not the Claimed Credit) and reducing it by half every week before adding the current Granted Credit. Since the credit is added as it is granted, the formula takes into account the time difference between now and the last time that Credit was granted. If no Credit is granted for a week, the Recent Average Credit is reduced by half anyway.

The Recent Average Credit calculation is run independently for each computer, participant, or team. So having an old computer that is no longer producing credits does not reduce the Recent Average Credit, but rather will increase it from what it would have been without the old computer. This increment will shrink until it is indistinguishable from 0.

The Recent Average Credit credit is therefore the number of Cobblestones per day performed recently in the production of Work Units by each Computer, Participant, or Team. This average decreases by 50% in the "half-life", according to algorithm.

You`ll find more info on the unofficial BOINC Wiki where this was taken from.
Hope it helped.

Sorry, I have no question, "I have a dream" ... oops, I just have a wish (what - read my posts above...)

P.S.
Very rare CPU you have (Centaur / VIA Esther processor 1500MHz),
where did you get it?

No probs,i`m going batty in my old age so you`ll have to forgive me LOL

As for the Centaur / VIA Esther processor 1500MHz it came in this lovely cr**py
laptop i bought about 3 years ago, trust me it`s given me more headaches than it`s worth not helped by the not so lovely board mounted graphics card,it helps me out though and does the job. Next one is going to be a core duo processor just got to find a nice laptop / medium spec at a price i like ;-)

A high rac and high (long) turnaround could probably also be caused by a extremely fast (quad/octo) host that only connects to the internet every few days, but when it does *several days after getting most of the wu's*, it probably reports hundreds of tasks at once.
