I can't seem to get any work. This is what I get:

2/27/2008 5:29:53 PM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 453600 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
2/27/2008 5:29:58 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks
2/27/2008 5:29:58 PM|SETI@home|Message from server: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance

I logged onto the site but couldn't see any notice for maintenance down-time.

This is "unplanned" down-time. Should get sorted when they get back into the office in about 4 hours time.

I am sure I read a post from Matt yesterday saying that he had left the servers doing some sort of update that should finish during the night, so it has obviously taken a little longer than he anticipated.

"Thumper" I assume is the reason you can't get work today.

Oh okay...I thought that was sorted out yesterday with bambi taking over db activities. I actually was installing seti on a new comp. Everything started fine & downloaded about 5 WU's when suddenly something went wrong and I had to reinstall - losing those 5 in the process. A few minutes after reinstalling, i didn't get any WU's but got this message so was wondering if it was a glitch or a problem at my end.

Looks like someone woke up at Berkeley. I finally got some WUs to go in.

Not so much a question of "how the servers are" as "how BOINC is designed."

Providing 100% reliability is impossible, and 99.999% uptime is very expensive, more than most projects can afford.

So, BOINC is designed to work well on an unreliable internet, and when things fail (or when a RAID is rebuilding, or reindexing, or whatever).

... and we as users should not feel a need to panic just because things are down for a few minutes.

Of course, reasonable cache settings help.

What BOINC is designed? OMG At least It's not a FORD as some might say(Fire up engine Or Recharge Daily) .

Hopefully the downloads will resume soon.

Not only is BOINC designed, but there is plenty of evidence to show that it works very well -- even when the crunchers try to "tune" it in ways that make them happy at the expense of the project.

If you really want to see it, you have to look at the BOINC client and the BOINC servers as a single system, not separately, as too many do.

... and if you wish, you can even go to the BOINC web site and read the design documents.

I guess I should increase my work cashe but unfortunately I don't know how to do that. Can anyone help?

On your BOINC manager click advanced at the bottom, then click advanced tab at top, click preferences, click center tab network usage...change additional work buffer to XX.XX days... 2 days seems to be a common usage buffer I read here. Hope this helps.../salute

I wasn't being serious, In any case 3 PCs are trying to download 5 WU's, It would be nice If whatever is/was slowing the downloads was faster, But everyone has problems with their PCs or whatever from time to time.....
