Silly question, but how do you know when something of interest has been found? I'm running without the screensaver (as its faster at crunching). Does it display something in the logs or do we wait for an email from the seti staff? |

What If My Computer Discovers E.T.? What happens? Hi, Thanks for the link. So I gather from the link there is no indication from Seti (the software) that its found something of interest or will the various skymaps show something? I vaguely remember something in Seti classic where they had a list of points of interest for re-observations, so presumeably it makes it on there if it hasn't already been discounted as RFI, etc. There is a mention in the link about rechecking and discounting 99.99% of the results. Is there a link to the re-observations list? Where does the nitpicker - The real time persistency checker come into all this (when its gets written)? Thanks again, MarkJ |

Thanks for the link. So I gather from the link there is no indication from Seti (the software) that its found something of interest or will the various skymaps show something? No, the software won't show any signals, primarily because it doesn't know what they look like. All it does is number crunching. Is there a link to the re-observations list? Not yet, no. It should at one time in the future show at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sci_status.html, or that was the plan, last I read about it (about a year ago). Where does the nitpicker - The real time persistency checker come into all this (when its gets written)? Read the Future Plans part on http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_plans.php. Apropos, all these links can be found under the About menu at the top and bottom of these pages. |
