I'd like to see the computer name in the tile bar as its sometimes difficult working out which machine i'm on. I use a KVM switch and change between machines and as they are all running XP they all look the same. Having the name of the computer in the tile bar would make it easier to work out which one I am looking at. Surely can't be that hard to add to the Windows version? MarkJ |

You mean in BOINC Manager? If all is well, the computer that you're working on through BOINC Manager shows in the lower right corner. If it's just your local computer, it shows "connected to localhost", if it's another computer, it shows either the name or the IP address. That depends on how you set it up in the remote_hosts.cfg file. |

You mean in BOINC Manager? It just shows "connected to localhost". As i'm using a KVM switch I haven't setup the remote_hosts.cfg file (no need as I login locally on each machine). MarkJ |

When you log in locally on each machine through another computer, then run the BOINC Manager from that computer that you're logged into, from that BOINC's point of view, you're working on localhost. If you're still using the BOINC Manager on the other computer, you need a remote_hosts.cfg file with all the names of the other computers in it, or start the client with the --allow_remote_gui_rpc command. Or use BOINCView, a third party program. For more information, see RPC Authorization. |

When you log in locally on each machine through another computer, then run the BOINC Manager from that computer that you're logged into, from that BOINC's point of view, you're working on localhost. Being security conscious I run boinc under a limited user acct and don't want remote access, they are only a KVM switch away :-). Hence my suggestion to display the machine name in boinc as they all look the same. |

But instead of giving the developers more work for aesthetic purposes, you can always label the KVM as to which machine you're switching to. Then it's only a glance away to see which machine you're staring at. |

Hence my suggestion to display the machine name in boinc as they all look the same. Well its labelled (numbers) and has a led indicating which one its on. The machines have labels on top of them as well. I just throught its something fairly trivial to program into it that helps us 'farmers' :-) |

Hence my suggestion to display the machine name in boinc as they all look the same. Why not set the desktop background to something different on each box eg:box 1-#1 box 2-#2, and so on I'm a Prefectionist ;) |

Why not set the desktop background to something different on each box The problem is you open up boincmgr and it covers most of the desktop, so you don't get to see the background unless you minimize it again. BOINC blog |

Why not set the desktop background to something different on each box It would be nice if boinc displayed something like: Connected to (computer name) at (ip address) (locally/remotely) running boinc (boinc version) example: connected to #1 at 192.168.1.100 locally running boinc 5.10.45 edit: where it now says connected to localhost (or remote host) (boinc verision) I'm a Prefectionist ;) |
