I'm running 2000 Server and I want to avoid having to hit 'return' at the logon screen everytime the machine reboots. I have multiple machines at different locations, so this is a problem. Will installing BOINC as a service eliminate this? I tried doing this on one install, but was unable to tell if it was running or not without logging on. I guess I could have waited a couple of hours to see if the task progress had progressed, but too impatient.

Yes, installing as a system service will allow BOINC to run even before logon. I run three stand-alone machines this way and my file server. Downloading and reporting work is not an issue either.

In addition, you might want to try running BOINCView to allow you to do remote control of your farm.
