I can see how this would be possible in principle, but I don't think that we could ever actually achieve it. This is something that would take thousands of years, go thru many generations of people, and that would take a very large commitment and a huge amount of funding. I do not think that it would be possible to maintain this project thru all of the generations that it would require and I don't think that we would ever be able to come up with enough funds to even attempt the project. I can't see too many people be willing to have money taken out of their taxes to terraform Mars. It would be interesting to see this successfully occur however.

Once mankind has finished trashing this planet then whatever evolves to take our place probably will have to terraform it to make it livable.
