I went to reduce the cache size and it's not there - just this new setting "Connect to network about every", but I've no idea what that does. The strange thing is that the LHC site still has the cache settings. I wonder what the alcoholism rate is among BOINC users :D

"Connect to network about every" is the minimum cache size and 2 times "Connect to network about every" is the maximum

Ah right, thanks. Is there a reason why the flexibility of the cache settings has been limited in this way? And why the difference between LHC and SETI?? The global_prefs.xml file still has min and max values.

I think just to make thing easier.
Boinc 4.09 uses "Connect to network about every" = "the old minimum", so if you set a maximum at cpdn, LHC or predictor it is not used

Because the web site code, though part of BOINC, is being primarily developed at UCB, then the other projects take what they want and install it into their web sites. So, you will see this "perculation" effect as one site develops a new feature, getting it added to the baseline, then distributed to the other sites.

Predictor@Home, for example, is working on the new v4.0x versions of the science applications and may introduce changes to the web site when the new hardware is brought up and put on-line.

What we used to call the dratted coffee machines that bubbled the hot water to the top of the machine and then dripped into the coffee basket.
