How can 'something' have a negative mass?

Direction of Electric forces are governed by possitive or negative charges, so the universe would just seem stranger if it DIDNT have possitive and negative masses giving opposite directions of gravitational forces.

but thats just my starstruck view of it all.

aLthough, Viearus, should it really have negative energy in the equation?
