Hello, one of my computers, 3019008, died. Tech support said my motherboard is basically beyond repair. The good thing is, I backed up most of my stuff, however, I'm sure my projects that were being processed on BOINC are now gone forever.

1) How do I 'delist' that dead computer from my "My computers" list on my SETI account?

2)How do I let the powers-that-be know that this computer is dead, so the files it was working on needs to be re-routed to another computer to meet the processing deadline?

Once the WU have timed out and removed from your list, you will have an option to delete the system from the list. This could take a while since the WU will need to be reissued and processed by someone else.

Don't worry about it. These things happen. I had my older system die two weeks ago. Nothing you can do, the WUs will be reissued automatically when they get past the due date.

I got a similar problem except mine isn`t dead yet,it`s auto shutting down all the time and i`ve still got 3 more workunits to do in my workload,can see if it holds out long enough i`ll have to transfer the work over to another computer.
Any tips,help or advice would be very much appreciated right now.

Copy the entire \\BOINC tree to a USB drive, then copy it to the new system you plan on using and then install BOINC right over the top of that copy on the new machine and it'll pick up right were it left off.

It sounds normal for a machine running BOINC since it runs your CPU at 100% all the time. You said you have a Via CPU? Those are usually designed for low heat situations; I doubt the system was built to cool off an overheating CPU.

I don't know about terminal, but you can try using BOINC's CPU throttling to see if the problem goes away. Too much longer and I'm sure something will fry. I'd try out 80% CPU usage to see if that helps. If not, try a lower percentage.

Thanks OzzFan. My Comp is behaving weird these days and have had this problem before,hardrive fails to start,only starts after 7 or 8 restarts. Comp can be switched off just by lifting the comp up being nowhere near the power button and i`ve lost one of the colours in my display. Have taken the machine apart to look for anything loose but without taking out the motherboard i can`t get access to the keyboard area,basicly i think my hardrive is on it`s way out another reason why i`ve been thinking of replacing my laptop. it seems ok for now but if i ain`t around then you know somethings gone pop and transfered the remaining workunits to another comp (which i can`t get online) :-( but will do until i can replace this one.

That symbol means that the BOINC Manager cannot communicate with the BOINC Daemon. The Daemon actually does the work. If BOINC.exe is actually running, then you are actually doing work, even if you cannot see what or control anything. Too see what is running, you can open Task Manager. You can do this either by right clicking on the task bar at the (usually) bottom of the screen, or you can hit CTRL-ALT-DEL. You should see BOINC.exe and the executable for whatever task is running among a long list of other things.
