Im using BoincView to monitor progress on my windows and linux boxes right now and its a great program. ive started both clients using the -allow rpc tag and it works fine, but i have one problem. With this, i cant get any information about the computer, host name or host id. Neither do all the wu's which are completed get stored in the "Completed" tab. Is this a bug or am i missing something here?

Why are people talking so much about a bug?
Couldn't it be just a "user failure" or simple "I don't know how"?

the bug (this time) are youself.

for the windows client,
use a boinc client above the version 4.05,
(now the 4.09 is released to the public)

only the recent versions(4.07+) of Boinc-Client Version ARE ABLE to deliver full host related (and more) information
be aware to use the last version of BoincView

BTW instead of the not so usefull parameter -allow..

use the FILE remote_hosts.cfg, to be created into every boinc folder
of the to be monitored client(one time).

The content of the file remote_hosts.cfg is the to be allowed monitoring host
(ipadress OR hostname)
this make it easier to start the client with the rpc allow "enabled"

look here
see access control

forgive me, i didnt mean to sound rude. all i did want to know was is this a problem with the program coz it says on the site iteslf, that this is just a beta release. Its not like im giving the developer a hard time! Infact i said myself that its a great program.

Thanks for the info!

>forgive me,

say loud the next 10 days, 3 times a day: "Thankyou loved Developer for all your good stuff"
after that, the absolution can be given.

;-)

In the mean time, please let the forum known, what exactly is your
version of boincclient running on the *nixnix* AND if they do support host information over rpc.

This is a very hot question!

From the frame work, we do know, it should be possible to use a cross plattform monitoring/Management.

We all are seeking for answers
The experience of success or not would be welcomed.

right click on data columns in boincview, it will turn on the option to have more tabs, or to hide tabs in your client.

So.. if you're on the work tab.. you can right click below that on... IP for example, and then you get a list with checkboxes to turn on and off data columns.

Also, connecting to a result over RPC allows you to connect and disconnect projects.. while having boincview look at a file/directory just gives you log files and less data.

Upgrade your clients to BOINC 4.09 and the problem will be solved.
