Seti@home has now an Official IRC channel on QuakeNet. You can chat with your mates, ask other people if you have a problem or just hang.

#setiathome @QuakeNet
Mirc: http://www.mirc.com

If you need help with mIRC then ask me.

errr... what exactly makes this channel 'official'? Or any more official than any of the ones listed on http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/related.php for that matter?

I am in the EFnet one hosted by The Knights Who Say Ni!. We have been there for 5 years now, serving the seti@home community as best we can.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to belittle your channel or insult you but I don't think the word 'official' should be used unless it is hosted by berkeley.

Also, just FYI it is usually considered rude to post a message on ALL message boards. Pick one that fits the topic and post there.

Happy crunching!

Toby.. it´s the only Seti@home channel on QuakeNet. Thought it would be great for those Seti@home users who use mIRC. You can also get faster help, you don´t need to wait for someone to answer in the forum. It has loads of possibilities.
But were just waiting for you guys to get there and make this channel a great place.

All true. We help many users on our channel. If you want to do so as well, great! The only thing I'm questioning is the use of the word 'official'.

I agree.. it´s not more official than any other Seti@home channel. But it is the Official Seti@home channel on QuakeNet. I am the first though to create a channel there just for Seti@home.

FWIW, there are actually several S@H-related IRC channels out there, on more popular networks than QuakeNet. As Toby pointed out, The Knights Who Say Ni! have a channel running. There's also #boinc on Freenode, ChatJunkies, and EFNet (all relayed between each other) for general Boinc discussion, #setiboinc on Freenode for S@H discussion directly pertaining to boinc, and probably a dozen others I just haven't run in to yet. :-)

I have to ask... what's the difference between an Official and Nonofficial IRC channel on QuakeNet?

I know =) i know! The difference isn´t that big =) Most of the guys on QuakeNet just have channels for their clubs but there isn´t an "Official" Seti@home channel. So i created one. =)

I need Operators to the channel. Is there any volenteers out there? If you´re interested in helping people with Seti@home then why don´t you come to #setiathome on QuakeNet and I will talk to you as soon as possible.

Very scary, but i cant be assed with all that Mirc stuff, i would just go here where most people are. Most replys are quick, i post something look around the forums come back and its answered. I like the idea but it wouldn't be for me! :D

Thanks Jaaku
