It would be really cool if when you start setiathome the software automatically played the famous five notes from the film Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
It would also be cool if this theme also played whenever a high signal count is detected (triplet etc)

The problem is that this would take resources away from what SETI@Home is really all about, finding et. The more effort developers put into this the less time they could put into improving how seti@home processes the data.

Nothing said about breaching the copyright of the theme music when they do so.
But when your Seti application finds the elusive signal it won't show as found in BOINC, it'll just be a certain peak of interest in the output file. Which then has to be re-run by others, to see if it's a fluke or not.

So although you may expect that BOINC has messages flashing on your screen that something is found, it won't do that. It won't be able to use music then either.
