The Presence the Dada artist plays . . .

Marcel Duchamp - 'Nude Descending a Staircase (No.2) / Nu descendant un Escalier. No.2. - 1912
© Art Science Research Laboratory, Inc. 2006

' . . . looking more closely at the parallel courses of modern art (Dadaism especially)
and Science fiction in providing a narrative voice and a performance stage for contemporary science.'

Joseph Cornell - Planet Set - Tête Etoilée' Giuditta Pasta (dédicace)' - 1950
© The Joseph & Robert Cornell Memorial Foundation/VAGA, New York and DACS, London 2002

"Joseph Cornell's 'Giuditta Pasta' is perhaps one of the most intriguing and enigmatic works of art of the 20th century.

In a famous essay, the Italian art historian Maurizio Calvesi brilliantly unveils in it the manifold citations

of Renaissance paintings and disguised references to traditional iconology.

Both images are linked in this way to the alchemical tradition (the stripping of the bride is a metaphor for the

philosopher stone in the writings of the 17th century alchemist Solidonius). Even without digging into the Grand

Verre as Grand Oeuvre, or alchemical Opus, this work of art has an enormous evocative power, due precisely to its

hints of multiple hidden meanings and difficulty of interpretation. Thus, a very brief apparition is the appropriate

way for a great mystery to manifest itself (just think of the divine apparitions in various religious mythologies).

In certain 'critical narratives' on Marcel Duchamp's Art, William Gibson, a writer, chooses this

particular piece of art, on which Duchamp worked for a good ten years, creating a 'wormhole' connecting

the future to the past and the cyberpunk movement to the tradition of the avant garde: an instant message

delivered to the reader in an almost subliminal, but extremely powerful, form."

. . . an Artist friend & past rememberance of a fellow cruncher @ SETI Classic / SETI Synergy - now BOINC Synergy

"An Impressionistic & Synergistic Relationship . . ."

'Djerban Sunset' © Christof Hoefliger 2002

. . . i originally met Christof Hoefliger through SETI Synergy - an Australian
Sub-Group of SETI ( that searches for Extraterrestrial Life ) with over 4
Million Individuals linked by their computers . . . through Distributed Computing . . .

Christof recently did some artwork - incorporating some Photograph's that he
has taken in Buchs, Switzerland - where he and his family reside . . .

The Artwork is done with an 'Impressionistic' touch. I believe my friend has
done some extremely interesting re-working of his photographs - as depicted by
his 'Djerban Sunset' above . . .

You will find Christof Hoefliger's Homepage here . . . (click on the Link)

called 'The Pole Vaulter' - a slightly larger than life Artwork w/ real bamboo for vaultin' . . . this particular work got destroyed - when a friend didn't secure it well enough - on the Pasadena Fwy - near Exit 49 . . . should 'ave seen the wreckage - there were 2 x 4's around the entire work - and they had 10 penny nails in 'em - caused quite a bit of a screw-up on the fwy that day - sent debris almost a mile - with cars demoin' the entire work for almost a day . . . (and nobody was hurt - though some cars got a few big dings in 'em - their insurance and the Gallery ended up payin' . . . meanwhile - i wondered about mi friend back then . . . kinda not cool . . . IF ya get mi drift . . . )) but - he's still mi good buddy (lives on the Isle of Hydra - Greece . . . see 'is work here: Michael Lawrence

enjoy

ps - Michael's Father - who passed away a few years ago - was Marc Lawrence - also a dear friend of mine - who is / was filmed by me - for my film 'It All Came True' - partially - before he died and i shall miss 'im quite a bit ;( . . . he was one of the funniest people i ever met . . .

fact is: one day i shall post a Media file of a shoot i did with him - "What do You WANT friom me Richard?" . . . painfully hilarious - to say the least - i will have to transfer it sometime . . . Marc was also in my 'The Artistry of Woodworking' Shows (Turner Broadcast) . . .

. . . regarding a conversation that i just had with Drew Lesso - Composer + Artist

> i initially saw Drew's Screen Saver on his MAC - and the rest was History

< just had a talk 'bout his gettin' back to Crunchin' - looks like it shall happen in the near future . . .

in the past - i had seen his work in Electronic Composition as an art - and actually gave him his first artshow using the compositions and later he actually made pieces that were his studies for his compositions - which he portrayed as works of art in exhibitions around Los Angeles . . .

check out his Compositions - he also worked with Karheinz Stockhausen (who passed on recently) - in Germany - at the same time i was working with Benght Hambreaus @ McGill University on my Future Music Scores . . . small world when we met later in 1978 - 79 in Los Angeles, where i was managing Al's Bar and he & i struck up a conversation regarding Art . . .

. . . Well - here's a very unique opportunity for each of you to see the 'Artworks' of the Berkeley Scientists and all . . .

As Posted by Matt Yesterday: Current Closet Status (and more) - February 14, 2008

i persoanlly luved the above photo:

Looking above the racks you see some web of power/network cables. This room wasn't meant to be a server closet and so the power distribution isn't optimal. To keep servers on separate breakers we need to do a little bit of kludge-y cable routing. So be it.

CONGRATULATIONS to Each of You @ Berkeley for a job well done . . .

Thank You dearly Beets . . . though i have NOT posted - even on the Web Sites (Yet) because the APPLE / MAC Servers Systems (OS 10) in Los Angeles, CA. went on the *blink* years ago and we lost 30 years of Artwork / Woodworkin' that i had done - includin' mi shows w/ Turner Broadcast - though i am presently re-buildin' all the info / files and will get them up @ some time in the future . . . lol too much work to do all the time - it was the fault ofd Adelphia / Comcast and those idiots back then . . . oh hum . . .
