I had the bonic up and running, but it got stalled and I can not get bonic to download another file.. What should I do...??? Alex You seem to have BOINC Manager running successfully. (Not "bonic", by the way.) You should have a BOINC icon in the dock, which will open BOINC Manager for you. When SETI@home is active, you should also have a BOINC icon in the main menu (top of Mac screen). To be sure that SETI is active, open BOINC Manager and look at the "Tasks" panel. The seconds should be "ticking away" on any processing task. Should this not be so, go to the "Preferences" under the "Advanced" menu in BOINC Manager. Under "processor usage", make sure there are ticks in the first 2 options. Under "network usage", make sure all zeros, except "Additional Work". Set this to 2 or 3 days. Then go to the "Activity" menu in BOINC Manager. Make sure "Run Always" or "Run based on Preferences" is ticked. Make sure "Net Activity based on Preferences" is ticked. All should then be O.K.. The BOINC icon appears in the main menu at very top of your screen. If not click the icon in the dock to activate. Choose "simple view" form the "View" menu, and click the red button at top left of BOINC window to leave SETI running in BOINC in the background while you go on using your Mac for other things. Hope you find this helpful, and have not unnecessarily simplified instructions that you may already know. Good luck Watch that "Tasks" panel to be sure something's happening. The graphs on the "Statistics" panel will not be at all interesting until after a few days have passed. Keith |

Hey Keith - I have my pref to run when my computer isn't used for 5 minutes. But, it seems like it won't run at all, no matter how long I don't use the computer. I know it can work, because if I set it to always run, it churns away. Ideas? Is there some background program that is fooling SETI into thinking I'm always using my computer? Thanks! |

Alex Don't forget that even a movement of the mouse will set the 5 minute clock back to zero again. Maybe that's what is "fooling" SETI. Try running Activity Monitor to see if there is any other activity that may be taking place. A careful examination of the Messages page of BOINC Manager might throw some light on what has happened over the previous hour or so after you have left the computer absolutely untouched. Also, it may be possible that a change in preferences has not taken effect if an "update" has not been made after the change is entered. That could be confusing if the need to update were not realized. Keith |
