Dear Friends, Thank you for your thoughts, I think Indy is depressed
He cant see, He is loosing control over his bowels not much but
the other day He stood in the Kitchen and his bladder just unloaded
you could see the embarrassment on his face, he couldn't stop..His Lymph nodes
are 4 times their size and he has trouble breathing especially when he is sleeping
its loud and awful sounding. I know it is upsetting Mirra too. I try not to
show the emotion but the tears just come out of me. Now I am getting grumpy (ier)

Etc...

Tim

Hey Tim,

Its never easy to have to make this kind of choice. Ever. But sometimes we have to do whats best for our pets (best friends). I had a ferret, Misty was her name, an albino ferret. She was the sweetest thing in the world. Loved to play, ran around the house, got into everything. She started developing a tumor on her tail that grew rapidly. It wasn't cancerous, however, they did a blood test on her, and found that she did have a type of cancer. I asked how long she would be able to live, and since ferrets have such a fast pace system, it wasn't very long. Me and my wife thought about it a lot, and ultimately decided it was in her best interest and ours to let her go. I didn't want her to continue suffering. So we laid her to rest at my vet's office. They were very good with the whole thing. But now she's in a lot better place, with no pain, no cancer, and living the life.

I will keep you, your daughter and Indy in my thoughts buddy.

Dear Timmy,
One day I came home and found my 11 year old dog Beefer had dislocated hips and was paralised from the middle of the back down. I saw she she was suffering and there was only one thing I should do ...take her to the vet. Here i was faced with a huge dilema...I am a BUDDHIST AND I cant in all concience kill another sentient being. But my poor Beefy was suffering so much I had to take her to the Vet to be killed. It was the same as if I had done it myself and It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I cried all the way home from the Vets..but eventually I realised that I could not continue my Beefy"s suffering to prevent my own suffering.

I suffered her loss tremendousely as I know you will with Indy . Your suffering is inevitable Timmy my dear friend. I wish there was something I could do to help you and Indy at this time ,,,

I know you will find the strength to do what is right for Indy. You gave him a good life, take pride and comfort in that.

OMG! What a shock!!! That's terrible news!!! I'm really shocked. I spoke to Dennis on Skype for an hour, just couple of weeks ago. While he said he was not well, I had no idea he was so close to the end. :[[[

We'll remember him a long time, those of us who knew him.

Cheers Dennis, wherever you may be.

In Memoriam

What?!? You mean you spoke with him individually and not as part of a conference? I feel left out.

Me too.
We was talking 2 hours or more about seti and privates.

I was kidding. :)
I think after Europeaners were asleep, Dennis would see if he could get hold of me.
But, the thread has moved on to a different, but important topic ... .
Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes.

Tim--

One time growing up we came home and found our 16-year old Lhasa-Apso/Miniature-Schnauzer mix circling around a tree totally unaware of where she was.

By this point she was deaf and was otherwise fine up to this experience. We'd just talk loud as we approached her and normally she'd be fine. This time she screamed bloody murder when my Dad picked her up (her best friend).

We put her down that day as she had some type of neurological deficiency that was manifesting itself. She had led an exceptionally well-spoiled life and she was telling us it was time to cross the Bridge.

Unfortunately it doesn't make it easier...let not your heart be troubled for his heart will guide your decision

Morning, I need your thoughts today, I must choose to put down my Buddy Indy
the Golden Wonder Dog, I don't want too, It is breaking my heart to have
to choose to do such a terrible thing...

He still has some personality left
but its mostly....Why?..Why cant I see anymore...Whats wrong with me?
Whats this Cancer word..you keep using?...I am only 5 yrs old....

Someone please tell me if am right in doing this...:-(

Ratava, first let me say that I am very sorry to hear about Indy. I personally would look at his quality of life. If he isn't in pain and seems to be able to get around and eat okk then I would enjoy having him around. On the other hand if he is in pain and is suffering and there's nothing you can do for him the I'm afraid that it would be time to say good by and end his suffering. I am very sorry that you would have to make this hard decision.

My friend......
You are right in taking your friend to the Bridge......
Indy's spirit is still there, but his body if failing him, and it is not a terrible thing that you must do....
Our pet companions trust us with their lives, and we must take that responsibility when it comes time.
I lost my beloved Tigger kitty at the young age of 5-1/2 years old after a 9 month battle to save her from genetic kidney failure....
I was spared from having to make that final decision when she had a stroke in her sleep and passed after I ran her to the vet only to find that nothing else could be done....she passed with my hands petting her....I am not sure that she was still able to feel it.
Indy will always be there for you in your memory.....take up the strength to take the walk with him to his final destiny.
He will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge when the time has come.
Indy will forever be your loving and trusting friend.

I started to write this last night and just finished this morning

I sent Indy off to meet DogBytes at Rainbow Bridge, Dennis and Indy are happy, healthy and together.

It started out with deep sadness on my part, Indy had no Idea what was going on
except he couldn't see and his breathing was hard. Mirra and I took him in to the
Examining room where Dr. Bob's staff had a small air bed with a nice blanket on it. Indy
climbed up on it and was happy and comfortable,

I gave him Doggy Treats and we laid there together, Then they took Indy away for a brief moment and inserted a tube in his front leg,
They also gave him a mild sedative to calm him down a bit. Mirra left the room and waited in the car.

I am so proud of her she was my rock! It was her choice to come with me and
although the experience was a sad one, She had a chance to say good bye.

I again held Indy tightly assuring him how much love and joy he gave to everyone he touched, I thanked him for saving mine.

I told him to go and find Dennis at the Bridge and he started to wag his tail I asked him to take care of Dogbytes,
In a few moments Indy passed and I held him seems like forever. I looked up at Dr. Bob and tears were in his eyes too.

I had to transport Indy's Body to Second Chance Animal shelter for cremation.
I am keeping his ashes and when I get some of DogBytes Ashes I will mix
them together and I will spread their Ashes in the old long lost Family cemetery...

Thank you all for your support and caring, I feel so much better now and feel I did the right thing for Indy.

Tim

I am so sorry to hear that Indy is now with Dennis. The compensation is that Mirra and you have come to terms with Indy's condition and you are all better off.

You, in particular, will now remember the best times with Indy, including those times he helped you. Then, given time, you may want to get a small new companion for your, now lonely, little cat.

Time is a great healer, and the good time memories will come home to a smile.

Best of luck over the next few days as you notice things.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

I feel so sad for your loss. Doing the kind thing for our pawed friends rarely makes the pain less, at least in the short term... still miss those who are gone.
Happy birthday Calm Chaos!!! Terrible twos?
