I'm trying to find the latest implementation of boinc for SPARC Solaris 10? The couple that I thought were going to work 5.10.17 isn't working. I get attach errors and the GUI RPC won't work, it gives me an error (shown below)

System info (it's a Sun SPARC 220R):

Message 698478 - Posted: 8 Jan 2008, 23:22:02 UTC - in response to Message 698469.

Some additional information now that I've gotten the CLI to attach to a project (though the GUI RPC is still failing):

2008-01-08 18:13:57 [SETI@home] [file_xfer] Started download of file setiathome-5.12.sparc-sun-solaris
2008-01-08 18:13:57 [SETI@home] [file_xfer] Started download of file setiathome-5.12.sparc-sun-solaris.so
2008-01-08 18:19:14 [---] Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
2008-01-08 18:19:14 [SETI@home] [file_xfer] Temporarily failed download of setiathome-5.12.sparc-sun-solaris: http error
2008-01-08 18:19:14 [SETI@home] Backing off 1 min 0 sec on download of file setiathome-5.12.sparc-sun-solaris
2008-01-08 18:19:14 [SETI@home] [file_xfer] Started download of file seti512.jpg
2008-01-08 18:21:17 [---] Access to reference site failed - check network connection or proxy configuration.

Ideas? The connection is working (I did attach to the project and preferences were read) but it won't download the actual client.

It looks like the connection problems are caused by some server problems. Could you please let it running and retry the BOINC client to get the binaries.
A volunteer has ported SETI Enhanched Multibeam for Solaris. The offical SETI binaries on the SETI servers are SETI Enhanced binaries. - Eventualy is this a opinion to use the newer one.

Not shure was the cause of the gui_prc bind problem.
Could you please try to start the BOINC client with "./boinc_client -no_gui_rpc" - the error message should not happens.
In the next step, please try to start the BOINC client with : "./boinc_client -allow_remote_gui_rpc".

Ok, it finally did download the client and start computing using -no_gui_rpc so at least the client works. However, when using -allow_remote_gui_rpc, it just dies:

bash-3.00$ ./boinc_client -allow_remote_gui_rpc

I'll leave it running without the RPC enabled for now but I'd like to get that working since I use BoincView to keep an eye on all the machines from one location.

I need some time to find out a cause for this problem. Eventualy I need some truss output from your system for further debuging.
Please be patient.

Btw. which Solaris 10 patchlevel do you use ? - Have you tried to update to the recent recommended patches ? - I know several Solaris 8/9/10 systems, on which this BOINC client works without any problem.

Could you please stop the BOINC client and start the BOINC client with "truss ./boinc_client -allow_remote_gui_rpc > out 2>&1", compress the file out and mail it to seti_boinc at dotsch dot de.

I found the source. The previous instances of BOINC were not stopping as they should have. Going through and manually killing off the processes worked and RPC is working again for the newest client. Both Sun systems are now running 5.10.17 Thanks for the help.
