I have a bunch of these systems, all very modern and most have 12 or more processors. I was wondering if there is a way to run seti@home on these monsters.( there even taller then I am!) I was thinking that since most of these systems are based of a Unix-like kernel there might be a way to recompile code for them. in total there is 438 processors that would be working. let me know...

There was a BOINC client and a SETI V.4.x applications for OS/400 out there. - There was some OS/400 system listed in the stats. But the binaries was never made public. I have also tried to ask the person, which has the binaries has build, to make them public and port a SETI Enhanced application. But I never get any feedback.

Are you intersted to build BOINC and SETI at the OS/400, System/390 and zSeries ? - I can assist you from the BOINC and SETI side to build the binaries.

Btw. what is the difference between zOS/System/Z and System/390 ?

Well, the difference of the systems are the internal microcode uses a different way of loading the IPL ROM, as far as I know thats the most troublesome hassle,
but I know how to program some RGP language and im sure with the right leadership i would be able port the client

Thank you very much !
Could you please contact me via email (seti_boinc at dotsch dot de). I think mailing would be better and faster than posting here.

I have tested successfull my BOINC and SETI Linux PPC/Power binaries in a Linux LPAR on a iSeries. So it is posible to crunch SETI and SIMAP on the iSeries/AS400. The binaries are available from www.dotsch.de/boinc.

Btw. are Linux S/390 binaries of interest ? - The debian peoples build a BOINC client and a SETI applicaiton for Linux on S390. I am not shure, if the binaries work also on Suse or Redhat. - Has anyone expirance if it posible to install debian packages on Suse or Redhat ? - Has anyone a howto ?
So it should be posible to crunch SETI over a Linux LPAR/VM. For the binaries have a look at the BOINC third party site : boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php

Normaly my AIX binaries should work in the PASE enviroment. Is PASE a better solution for the iSeries as a LPAR ?

Or are native OS/400 or zOS binaries better ?

I would think the native binaries for OS400 and System/z would be the best route. I was able to "crunch" BOINC onto my RS/6000 systems and it seems to work just fine, even thought I'm using AiX 4.3 ( yeah, good old POWER2 processors)

BUMP.

I have made a port for Linux S390/zSeries which works in a LPAR/VM of the zSeries/S390.
