The recovery from yesterday's outage (see my previous post) ended up going faster than expected. During the evening I turned the assimilators/splitters back on before we ran out of work or clogged the pipelines too much. Today we had the usual database backup/compression outage. Usual drill - no news there. We're back on line and catching up. Other than that, lots of minor hardware/software cleanup - basically getting ready for the long weekend (for those outside the U.S. I'm referring to Thanksgiving, i.e. an excessively large meal centered around turkey on Thursday, followed by three days of shopping, watching football, and digesting).

I forgot to bring in a camera to take pictures of the cleaned-up closet. Maybe tomorrow (if I don't have jury duty - cross your fingers). I don't have a cell phone either, much less one with a camera in it. Not that there's much to see that's new - but it's good to post some pictures once in a while.

It's our moment of ZEN.

Hi Matt, thanks for the info.

How long did it take clearing the closet? - I estimated 11 hours.

The real reason for the Tuesday outage:

The janitor unplugs the master science database because the socket is the most conveniently placed for the vacuum cleaner...

arrrrggggh!

From Foxtrot, Genesis, 1972? That and “Watcher of the Skies” are among my favourites of theirs—or anyone’s, for that matter.

Guess that is what this is about::
11/21/2007 9:34:41 PM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed upload of 20fe07ad.4892.482.16.6.248_0_0: system connect

I have a queue full of those so no crunching being done. :/

Never mind... Noticed one other box was uploading fine so rebooted this one and all is uploading.
Strange that stopping and restarting the service did not fix it. Course it could be something in windoze ... anyway...

Happy Turkey day!!
