Does it solve the SETI/CPDN time slice issue? |

> Wow, major freezing problems with 4.09 Anyone else? Not freezing problems, but I've gone back to 4.08, on my test computer, 4.09 was totally ignoring the time sharing parameters, I'm running CPDN (or trying to), and seti, 4.09 just crunched a solid 12 hour chunk of seti instead of 2 hours on seti, 1 hour on CPDN, I think I'll live with the known problems of 4.08 for now. There's some problems with the dial-up support, at least in v4.05 which I have. L8R.... --- Rick A. - BOINCing right along now.... It can only get better!
|

> Wow, major freezing problems with 4.09 Anyone else? > 4.09 is a little slow to respond...but it does not freeze. I have been running it for 20 hours now and no problems. I downloaded 20 WUs and it never froze...I have uploaded and returned 2 also with no problems. 4.06-07 were so bad that my whole computer froze up til I did the three finger salute. I could have lived with only BOIONC freezing but not the whole computer. Don |

When I leave my computer for long periods of time, I turn off the monitor. When I it turn back on and click the BOINC icon in my tray, I immediately lose video signal and must CAD. This may have something to do with my screensaver/power settings but it is an issue that is new with 4.09. |

> BOINC 4.09 is offical > > http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download.php Hm, any advice on how to safely update existing BOINC 4.05 Clients for Windows and Linux to this V4.09 (without endangering the running SETI / CPDN / LHC Work) ? And what about that auto-update feature of BOINC, does this play any role in such a (major) upgrade, or is manual upgrading to V4.09 the only way ? ___________________________________________
Scientific Network : 36200 MHz «» 8204 MB «» 815.0 GB
|

Hm, so no previous Uninstall (Windows), just install the new Version over the old one. And with Linux, I just replace the V4.05 Binary with the V4.09...? Just want to make sure ;) ___________________________________________
Scientific Network : 36200 MHz «» 8204 MB «» 815.0 GB
|

I do an update in this way: Download the new version, Close Boinc, WU's still in process or not, Do the update by overwriting the existing one, Run Boinc. I never had any problem until now by doing like that, unless a major version change. Greetings from Belgium. Help Desk: use "Most recent answer first" sorting. |

Alright, 2 Windows and 1 Linux Client updated, and it works flawless. Best thing : I now have full remote GUI_RPC Control over all machines o.0 That's awesome ! BOINC, here I come, together with BOINCview that's all I ever needed to go full throttle :D ___________________________________________
Scientific Network : 36200 MHz «» 8204 MB «» 815.0 GB
|

Well, trying out 4.09 on my system here at work (XP Pro SP2). Did notice the slower benchmark numbers. Thinks it will take 6 hours 44 mins to complete a WU when it actually only takes around 4 hours 30 mins at most. Used to think it would only take 5 hours something. I'll probably hold off on installing it at home (XP Home SP2) for awhile. I have both SETI and CPDN running at home on a 50/50 split and 4.05 has been handling everything just fine. Thanks for all the hard work Berkeley :) Mark H. |

Well I do not know about ver 4.09, just upgraded and my CPDN has 300 hrs added to the completion time, LHC has 2 hrs added, and it looks like Seti@H stayed about the same. Anyone else have this happen.......... The benchmarks went down just a little so I hope it clears it up as it runs. My name is Pascal and this message has my approval... It is 10 oclock, do you know what your WUWUs are doing tonight... |
