Could raw wave relate to tsunami? Because certain few giant ship get sank by raw waves maybe numbers unknown. Well I did some searching and I found an article about the cruise ship Norwegian Dawn being hit by a freak wave in 2005. Yes very interesting. That one was like 70 feet high. I also found a National Geographic article about "rogue waves", or "freak waves". The article mentions two tourist ships, the Bremen and the Caledonian Star being hit by rogue waves. Apparently the waves were up to 30 meters high. |

Tsunami waves have low amplitudes and huge wavelengths. When they approach a coast, the wavelength decreases and the amplitude increases, causing havoc. As for raw or monster waves, I remember that the Italian liner "Michelangelo" was hit back in the Sixties by a wave then described as "anomalous", causing damages and life loss in the upper bridge, which included first class cabins. And the strange thing is in the middle of ocean that wave appears, of course possibly that caused by certain tectonic movements. Maybe current seismologists and oceanologists did not link yet these two processes. It is the sailors call that as rogue wave. (I think you got that more accurate than me I heard that as raw wave. :D ) Tsunami waves have low amplitudes and huge wavelengths. In that NG documentary it seemed scientists are just beginning to change their views of rogue/raw waves as a rumor to as a serious fact. (You know the poseidon movie was actually made as a kind of sci fi movie but now it is turning into certain realistic thing. I guess that released in 2005.) Mandtugai! |
