I have installed boinc manager client from synaptic, version 5.10.8. I manged to solve the browser link problem. Now I want to know whether the graphic buttons work in Ubuntu 7.10.

I recall being told that none of the graphics show in any Linux client - I can conform at least that has been true for a few years with my use in Ubuntu.

I've had working graphics with 5.8.16 on Mandriva 2007.1 and Puppy 2.17

Can't vouch for Ubuntu 'cause I don't use it, but can't think of a good reason why graphics shouldn't work.

Graphics.. Ugh! Horrible waste of cpu time...

Hello.

Im using Ubuntu too...a nice Linux distribution with a really nice community btw. Just try it out and forget that other operating system ;)

To get graphics with the linux-boinc-client, just open a terminal and type:

xhost +local:

This will enable the graphical output. Hope it helps at your side.

Greetings.

Thanks alot for this great tip! Thsi works nicely on my Ubuntu system. The only dowside is that with Compiz turned on, all black background is displayed as transparent :-) But who cares, for the sake of CPU cycles I'll leave Graphix (and Compiz) turned off :-)

Hello

Hm, Im not familar with Compiz, but I guess it demands the restricted driver support enabled in system->administration->restricted driver ? (path may vary on your english ubuntu system; Im using the german one and just translated the path directly into english - too lazy to switch language :D)

But I got those transparent dark areas too. After enabling the restricted driver support all is fine now - even if very slow. Maybe my graphic card or just the bad OpenGL support with those drivers (dont understand why OpenGL runs so bad - well maybe its because to force everyone to use directx and that other OS :D)

And have a look on kboincspy. Its a really good addon for the seti@home-client with linux.

http://kboincspy.sourceforge.net/

install:
(login as root)
(apt-get install kboincspy)

Greetings,
Aries
