I've taken some time with it, after reading BOINCview had some ability to remote control other Hosts running BOINC with the so called "GUI RPC" feature over Network.

Apart from one setting (set Network Mode, e.g. Enable/Disable BOINC Network access) not working for me so far, all other remote features look and work excellent.

With the ability to finally remote control BOINC on other machines via Network, that affords the otherwise critically missing Key Feature of Fleet management for me :)

Cacheing is of course still performed only by each local Node, but with BOINC's Central Preferences Setting and own cacheing, that should be sufficient.

Proxying is still needed, but by once remote toggling all Nodes' Network Enable/Disable, all finished work could be flushed in a controlled and supervised manner; no need to have the entire Network & Proxy in the "always online" Mode anymore.

Overall first impression :
VERY promising, even in its current Beta stage.
Also, since its visuals and Features were inspired by SETIwatch to some extend, this really is as good as it gets I'd say.

So right now I have a 2nd test machine up&running with BOINC, and have (almost) full remote control over it, including all Stats display and alike :o)

Let's hope Armanheis keeps up this excellent work!
That might very well become the "Killer Add-on" for BOINC, that it was lacking compared to SETI Classic so far.

Linkage :
http://www.amanheis.de/blog/

PS.
I think in a few months, I actually can fully migrate my entire Network to BOINC without all the headaches it previously gave me thinking about ways how to do it.

Hi Everyone and Anyone who can help,
I have downloaded Boincview, and I am trying to get it to work the way it is supposed to. For those that don't know me, I am not a computer person, so I have to be hit in the head with the information so that I can make things work.

Thants why I appreciate all of you that help so much.

:-)
I loaded the location of my boinc files in my system and label the loacation Boinc 1, which shows in the left hand column. Under the project tab my project ,team TC, and the info for 1 of my boxes is listed, but the toatl credit for the whole account is listed.
The Host Tab shows all the peticular info for the 1 box.
The work tab shows all the WU's wauting to be crunched on this one box.
The Next Tab "Completed" is where the problem lies, as soon as it opens an error box comes up
Cannot Open file C:programs\Boincviewlogs\boinc_log.cvs
This system cannot find specified file.
The A Boinview.exe box pos up and says that it has encountered a problem and will close.

I tried to set my location to the "Slot 0" file where the state file is, but it would not allow me.
I know I am the one screwing up, so can someone please tell me how to fix it the right way.
There is supposed to be something in this program that lets me control network access so I do not lose anymore caches in power failures etc.

I am running a intel celeron 2.8 on Windows Xp Home SP1 on this peticular box.

Thank You anyone in Advance.

Have A Great Day Today and A Better Tomorrow!

Regards,

Rocky

Do you mean other than the obvious that there are no \(slashes) for directory heirarchy?
I use BoincView and love it but my system does not have that file in it!
Mine seems to work fine for the 7 boxes I have running Boinc. I have a small problem in that the "host" column is blank except for one machine, all the other machines just have 3 dots in that space. That has not caused any problems, I can even get the network boxes to connect and "update" just fine, even though the dots are there. When I do a right click it does show the correct name for each box.

Dude, the forums don't let you post slashes some of the time.

Hi,
When I posted the message it did have slashes in it, and I don't know what happened to them. As for your replies, I appreciate them very much and I am glad that you enjoy the program. So Mikey I direct this to you, I need to know how to set my program up so that I will be as happy as you. I do not know alot of computer terms, but I am learning, and I was hoping someone such as yourself that seems to be very educated in making programs work could help me. I just need it broken down exactly what you did, that I have to do. I tried to follow the instruction sheet that came with it, and if possibel, if you could tell me in your own words what those instructions are instructing me to do. I have 3 boxes, and I want to do the same to each if necessary, if the program will not pull results from the Account page.
I apologize for being so lame, and do appreciate your time.

Warm Regards,

Rocky

Normaly the boinc_log.csv should only exist after the first result is logged. So BoincView shouldn't bother when the file doesn't exist. That makes me think something may be wrong with the path. Does C:\programs\Boincview\ really exist on your machine, did you changed the log path in the preferences?

The state file BoincView uses is client_state.xml. That file can be found in the same folder where the BOINC client is installed.

I am assuming that you have installed 4.05, that is the latest official release.
Changing network access is only available if you run BOINC clients after 4.05.

Really dots or something like this "---" ? If dots, please post or send me a screenshot. :) So far if you use BOINC clients between 4.0 and 4.07, you won't see any host infos via GUI RPC. That's not a BoincView bug.

I had to change BoincView so it uses the location names for identify the hosts.

Thanks *g*

I had just completed my Profile like 1 hour before that, and then saw it on the Main page *ugh* ;)

PS.
BOINCview is still beta of course, and there seem to be different outcome/limitations when viewing remote machines via File access (e.g. via File and Printer sharing) and the Network mode (with GUI_RPC connects allowed on the remote Client)

I think in a few more versions, alot of that is going to run alot smoother (RPC seems a very recently implemented feature of BOINC, so there's lots of potential still in it)

I'll attach one of my Linux systems to it within the next days, to see how this works out.

Hi Keine,
I do not have the _log.cvs file anywhere in the boinc view program. Not under the log tab or resource tab, etc.
Iam using the 4.05 version. I did find the Client_Stste.xml file you are talking about. But when I setup Boincview, I click on the boinc tab..but I do not know if it is recognizing the file or not. Am I supposed to make a copy of that file and put it in the Boincview folder?

I am sorry, I am just so confused right now. Thanks for the help.
Eventually I am sure to get it working...probably when they upgrade to a program that eliminates dummies like me. lol

As I said "BoincView shouldn't bother when the file doesn't exist" and it will only be created by BOINC after the first result could be logged. ;) So don't care about that file.

No. You have just to tell BoincView, there the BOINC client saves that file. I know you already did that, because you stated this fact in your first post here in this thread. So don't care about that file also. *g*

I try to get rid of this can't-find-file error. And if I can't, I swear I will make the error message nicer with some flowers in the corner and music in the background. ;)
