It's coming up to that night here in the UK.

(All are welcome from around the globe to join in our crazy celebrations.)

(Clip created from the movie "V For Vendetta.")

I doubt many here in the UK actually know the story behind the "Gunpowder Plot."

Most will just enjoy it as a chance to enjoy an evening outdoors with friends and family.

Many may actually think they are celebrating an ideal of freedom from government (by attempting to blow up parliament.)

Many won't stop to realise they are celebrating the survival of Protestant values, ancient powers and attitudes that govern us still.

Remember Remember The Fifth Of November

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up King and Parliament.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

A penny loaf to feed the Pope
A farthing o' cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down.
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head.
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip hoorah!
Hip hip hoorah hoorah!

I wonder what Britain (and the world) would have been like today if England had become Catholic or it's government had been totally wiped out back in 1605 on the 5th of November?

To describe a person who intended to be a suicide bomber as a "national hero" is shocking. I hope you were joking.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

Hey.

Every nation has people who are willing to sacrifice themselves.

Every soldier who goes to war needs to accept they may be committing suicide in the hope they will make a difference.

There is a big difference between an individual who offers their life in hope and a system that creates human weapons.

We would all run in front of traffic to save an innocent.

We would be fools to run in front of traffic because we were trained to do so...

Guy Fawkes is not my hero but I do like his spirit....and I like big bangy firework things :o)

I suspect unlike suicide bombers 'Guy' actually had an escape plan..

It just didn't work out....

He got caught..
