So the new load balancing regime on the schedulers has been working great. That's good news. On the other hand, our science database replica still isn't quite perfect yet. At least we're finding it to be resilient (i.e. we don't have to reload it from scratch every time it barfs). It got into a funny state yesterday, and had to be ungracefully killed. We rebooted the system to clean the pipes and then it recovered just fine. However, the reboot tickled a disk controller problem we've seen before where a tiny random subset of disks were invisible after reboot. Luckily the RAID is robust enough that this wasn't a big issue. We fixed this problem the way we did before: a full power cycle. The disk controller must be hanging on to some broken bits that only a complete power down can remove. In any case, we really need to invest in those networkable power strips at some point.

Smaller items: Various web site issues arose yesterday afternoon. A partial update of web code was in conflict with older parts. Dave cleaned that up this morning. Meanwhile Jeff and I are getting ever closer to fully automating the multibeam data pipeline, from Arecibo, to UCB, to the splitters, to our clients, and to/from our archives down at HPSS. We are hoping that someday soon we break through whatever bureaucratic dam(s) to get gigabit out of the lab (still currently stuck at a 100 Mbit ceiling for the whole lab, including our own private ISP strictly for SETI data downloads/uploads). By the way.. we believe we'll start collecting fresh data again at Arecibo before the end of the month.

And oh yeah.. I'm closer to making this page ready for prime time (doing regular daily plots, making selectable archives depicting other signal types from other 24 hour periods, maybe even animating them):

About the only suggestion that's in your control would be to check the battery status on the RAID controller(s). Replace if low voltage.

The skymaps are really cool. It says a lot to tell the world, "We looked here and here for E.T." with just one picture.

At least in my country November 1 is All Saints Day, November 2 is Dia de Los Muertos.

Yes..we noticed the code updates for the forums..for a brief moment i was the only one that seemed to be able to post. :D

Glad to see it is mostly sorted now..although I notice that even when i read my pm it still shows up as unread at the top of my page.

EDIT: ..and some people's threads are still showing up as white..if you look at the seti@home science board it is very noticeable.

Can I have all my threads show us as Pale Weak Magenta (FFCCFF) please?

hmmm... the 3d-style top row needs a little bit fine-tuning...
In my eyes it also looks a little bit misplaced with the rest of the tabe (and site) being flat.
However main thing is it works.

Looking forward to more (and bigger) skymaps!

Problems with the English website - I'm getting random Spanish phrases in links, column headings, etc.

I'm not counting the heading of this thread, BTW...

For example, as I write this, the area above which usually reads "Message" is reading "Mensaje", the "Preview" button below the box reads "Previsualizar", and the private messages line reads: "Private messages: Bandeja de entrada (0 unread) | Escribir"

I think there is a place (perhaps called Language) where you can select Spanish or English. For some reason Spanish may have been selected there. It might be on the main page.

Pienso que hay un lugar (quizás llamado "Idioma") en donde se puede elegir el español o el inglés. Por alguna razón era posible que fuera elegido el español allí. Puede estar en la página principal.

I thought the server decides from the browser language what it serves you...
Got two boxes here with different language setup, each gets the site in the adequate language.

This random influx of foreign languages comes and goes with the code being updated... Had that a couple of times in the past.

I see some 3D buttons, But is the area where It says Message supposed to be in 3D too? If It is, It isn't 3D in Firefox 2.0.0.9.
