Hi.
Why is it, that whenever i click the update buttom, Boinc goes crazy and locks down? I have to install boinc again when that happens, otherwise it will not run. I have 2 projects that i'm participating in. could it be a bug?

What does "goes crazy and locks down" mean exactly? Can you be more specific?

The game High/Low is played by tossing two nuclear warheads into the air. The one whose bomb explodes higher wins. This game is usually played by people of low intelligence, hence the name High/Low.

Well, okay, I got that part. Clicking "refresh" starts the behavior. I was asking what the strange behavior was. Or did you just mean that BOINC locks down when you click update?

Also: please post the version of BOINC you're using, the OS you're using, and all that good stuff. That helps the people who are smarter than me figure out why things are on fire.

Yep. Boinc locks down when i click update and nothing more, and it will not open again when i try to open it. I'm currently using boinc version Windows/x86 4.05 and running OS Xp pro. Other than that the boinc client runs smoothly, if i just remember not to click updateMy info

Are you on SP1 or SP2?

You may want to try the 4.08 version that's floating around. There were some bug fixes in it that may have solved whatever problem you're having.

Before you do that, though, here's a dumb question: Have you tried rebooting your machine since the problem started? A timely reboot can sometimes do wonders.

I also had this problem with 4.05. Tried 4.08 and had no problem til:
slow down
'had My Laptop slow way down during communication with server. Three finger salute shows BOINC not responding. This is not true. SETI@home is still downloading WU's'

Followed this advice:
leave it
'if it looks like it is hanging, leave it for a while until downloads have completed' and i seem to be good.
Still patiently waiting for 4.09 to fix this bug, but at least 4.08 is doable and seems to have a far less catastrophic hang.
Gotta be real patient. For me, 55 minutes of patience.

[Edit]Question. Are you running on a Laptop.[Edit]

If you are still having problems after upgrading to 4.08, make sure to post a thread in the Help section. The developers pay more attention to stuff in there and can get more technical with you.

Just want to say, that everything is now ok ala grande, now that i have thrown 4.08 in my machine :-)
Maybe version 4.08 should go public and not only be used for alpha testing ;-)
Thanks to you all

Well, knowing v4.08 didn't pass the alpha-testing, don't expect it to be released to public. ;)

There is always the hope that each version will pass Alpha. 4.08 will not be released to the projects (it broke a few things worse than they were). Hopefully these will be fixed with 4.09.
