Socialist/former Marxist British magazine posts Objectivists short essays on egoism

I found these to be interesting. The New Statesman is a very old socialist magazine that has merged with numerous other left wing publications over many decades including marxist ones.

Some of the comments pertaining to these VERY short simplistic essays are interesting.

I admire their free inquiry.

Since there are apparently many British and other socialists and theists that post here I thought it would be an interesting view.

Notice that they were posted in the 'Faith' section of their published articles which is something that may detract from their readers insofar as they are not faith articles but are placed accordingly as a rebuttal to such approaches to truth.

Well, I think the most important thing in life is to be happy. You can call that egoism. And I agree that egoism has not necessarily to be a bad thing. Helping others can make you feel good yourself for example.

Immoderateness and greed are dangerous, though.
Unfortunately that's what we get fed by the media all day long - being the richest, most famous, most beautiful, most powerful, whatever. Just that such a life is not fulfilling for 99.99% of the people - the poor and even the rich (what good is money for if you can't enjoy it because your neighbor has a bigger house and your colleague a better car and the guys in the golfclub have bigger bankaccounts). Even worse in politics, because the only "endgoal" would be a dictator with total control.

Actually if greed and immoderateness would not rule the actions of our elites, but cleverness, they would find out that they, too have a reason to make sure the "average guy" lives a good life. Ok, it would require a fair tax system and fair payment for work, which looks like loosing a few millions in profits. But isn't that a good price to pay to enjoy the money in peace and without social riots? And does increased buying power not benefit the elites in the end?

Hm, that's probably too simple. Is it?

If the situation get's too harsh it might end up in overthrowing a government. And the elites might in the end risk it all. Is it really worth it?

I am just giving some feed for thought, out of egoistic reasons, because I live a pretty good life and don't want to change it due to of a bunch of greedy and shortsigthed idiots ruining this world.

I found these to be interesting. The New Statesman is a very old socialist magazine that has merged with numerous other left wing publications over many decades including marxist ones.

After some research I must say that when mentioning the "New Statesman", it's more appropriate to speak of it as a "former Socialist/Marxist British magazine", since it's no longer left-wing at all. The posting of essays advocating egoism only proves that this magazine can no longer be leftist.

Greed is a concept that belongs to those that envy...

Hence the need for words like haughty and vanity... ;)
