Fascinating. No time for linkage. I'm sure the local pollution can take care of topic.

It looks like history is starting to repeat itself.

1st we had major financial crisis throughout the world causing the depressions of the late 20/30s.

Then nations threatening each other with some going to war.

Before long it erupted into WWII.

Is it possible before long, we will have WWIII?

What? Did Israel do it again? I heard about this last week. So is this old or have they done a 'second raid'?

France threatening Iran is new, I found that out tonight.

As for WWIII, starting to look that way. Pray to whatever god or deity you believe in that it doesn't happen. I think it's the last thing we need.

But it could be too late.

(Excuse me while I go dig up those cruise missiles I hid in the backyard).
Note: this should not be seen that I support war and conflict, but rather dark humour.

Truth is stranger than fiction & I think it is time the world woke up.

It has been proven by history that nobody looks to the past & learn from it's mistakes.

When (not if) it happens, it will put WW1 & II into the shade!

Look! If you're going to have a stockpile of cruise missiles stowed in your backyard please bring enough for the rest of your classmates! There's no sense in everyone crying and whining over who's got more cruise missiles than the guy or gal next to them is there? :-P

I'm trying to get some sort of newsgroup linkage going. I must be pretty lame this day as I'm coming up rather empty. I would have thought that if Israel went and did some sort of bombing raid on Syria and then Syria promised to strike back we'd have commentary readily available. Oh well, I'm sure it'll flesh out later after all the O.J. Simpson stories get buried. :-(

Great find, Hev! Thank you. This is just pointing what I ever tell... I just bookmarked that website :)

It does not suit them because, just as with Iraq, the issue of weapons of mass destruction is a pretext, not a reason.

Just as with Iraq, there is no evidence of an Iranian bomb and no threat, therefore, of the country using one.

And by what moral authority do the biggest nuclear powers in the world presume to pontificate over Iran? Their continuing possession of nuclear arms does more to destabilise the world than Iran could ever do.

But the issue here is not nuclear weapons, it is, as it was with Iraq, the region's oil and US hegemony in the region.

This was made clear by no less a person than Alan Greenspan, who was for 18 years head of the US Federal Reserve bank and whose memoirs, which were published on Monday, declare, much to the chagrin of the White House:"I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows. The Iraq war was largely about oil." And there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth.

And you can't reasonably accuse Alan Greenspan to be left-wing, can you?

Hey, R/B. If you want some I'm sure 'arrangements' could be made.

More seriously. I have dug up some news items on Israel and Syria. However, I do not vouch for their accuracy and I do not necessarily agree or support any view or opinion contained within. What is reflected in them is not mine. I am merely trying to give information. You may form your own beliefs.

1. Yahoo News Syria accuses Israel of bombing its territory (dated Sep 6)

2. Israeli jets 'drop ammunition' in sortie over Syria (dated Sep 7)

3. Reuters Canada Syria says Israel bombs territory as Israel silent (dated Sep 6)

4. Channel 4 News Did Israel bomb Syria? (modified Sep 17)

Other information also shows that Israel bombd Syria in 2003 as well.

I'm sure there is more out there...

I think there is a saying that goes something like the following:

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

No idea who said it and when and where, but I think I got close to its correct version.

Thanks for the link there, Hev....and Zwerg...and whoever else.

Greenspan clarified his points I hear. He claimed that he doesn't believe that that was the Bush administration's motivations for going to Iraq per se, just that that was a logical outcome of it nonetheless because of the strategic nature of the region.

No, Greenspan's not a left winger. In fact he was lifelong friends of Ayn Rand and spent his younger college years with her and her 'collective', consulting her for career advice before choosing his path in economics.

No, but he also clarified his comments, noting that oil was not the primary reason for the war--just that the strategic nature of the area is inseparable from the actual justifications.
Cordially,
