When updating to the latest version of Boinc, the computer description changed slightly. Because of this, I cannot merge computers in my hosts section with the correct version as different models are offered, but not the appropriate one in my hosts list.

Example: I want to merge "taras-r-hnatyshyns-power-mac-g5.local" (Power Macintosh Power Macintosh [Power Macintosh Model PowerMac7,3] [AltiVec]) and "taras-hnatyshyns-g5-computer.local" (Power Macintosh PowerMac7,3) but only get some of my other computers as options.

Ditto for me. I have just reinstalled BOINC on my mac (CLI version) and now have 2 version of my iMac, one listing it a a

'GenuineIntel Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2500 @ 2.00GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8]'

and the 'other' is

'i386 iMac4,1'

They are the same machine

Attempting to use merge shows Sometimes BOINC assigns separate identities to the same computer by mistake. You can correct this by merging old identities with the newest one.

2aaaaaa4 7bbbb9: cpu
2aaaaaa4 1cccccc3: name
2aaaaaa4 3ddddd6: cpu No hosts are eligible for merging with this one.

7b*9 and 3d*6 *are* the same machine...

Newer versions of BOINC identify CPUs differently (in more detail) than before, and there’s no way to convince it that the two strings above are descriptions of the same host. If you like you can delete the old entry once it has no more results pending; the credit it earned under the older BOINC version will remain in your user account regardless.

It looks like there are more options for merging, but it appears that for most of my computers I can select all but the the one that actually represents the same box. I was able to merge one of my computers, but that was the same string...
