Can I assume that the new 2.4 chicken app will run the older ones and still return valid science?
Best Regards,
Gus

Yes, the new 2.4 apps can handle "older" WUs as well as Multi Beam Wus. No need to worry, it's all valid sience.

The app_info that came with the intel sse2 app didn't have a section for

5.27 so i cut it down and added it. See below for mine.

<app_info>
<app>
<name>setiathome_enhanced</name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>KWSN_2.4_SSE2-Intel-P4_MB.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
<version_num>527</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>KWSN_2.4_SSE2-Intel-P4_MB.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
<version_num>517</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>KWSN_2.4_SSE2-Intel-P4_MB.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>

Edit/ It works got both types of W.U.s

Well,

must be cause there were about 25 different apps to update...the 5.27 entries got lost in the fray.

Everyone who downloaded until now, edit as directed by a few people here if you feel you need to (or want to continue 5.27 WUs), everyone else, just grab the app, the XML files have been edited.

Maybe now I can get some sleep? :oP It's 2:30 a.m. and I can hardly type anymore.

Regards,
Simon.

Trying to update from 5.17 to 5.27 on one of my boxes, a 2.0Ghz. Northwood. The previous version said it was 2.2B SSE2 generic. What would the replacement be? I didn't see a generic version on the website.

Much thanks, Simon. Sleep well, knowing the admiration and gratitude of your peers for the effort you coordinated.

If that is the worst error of the day, it was a good day.

And, yes, crunch3r, I saw you are the master compiler of most of these aps, and am grateful for that and for your participation here.

Possibly my post on the 5.27 matter was useful, if so that made my day as well.

On lunatics.at, the 2.24 release announcement from Simon contains the phrase "All versions except Windows 32 bit were compiled by Crunch3r. Danke!"

Forgive me if I misinterpreted it.

Myself and a few others at my teams forum have had all the 5.17 work units terminated with computer error upon converting to 2.4 directly from 2.2B and have not received any work even after a reset and a detach and re-attach. As well as a repair and or a reinstall of Boinc for Seti.

Any Ideas about what happened or is happening.

Thanks
Hank

Pending some more input from Eric or Matt, see my estimation in the 'no work from project' thread.

Unfortunately your host are hidden. So it's impossible to see what happened there.

BTW i don't get the point what you mean by 2.24 ... there's no such relase of optimized apps... the ones you get over at lunatics.at is 2.4 ...

After deleting Boinc again 3rd time and this time tracking down a few stubs left behind I re-installed Boinc for Seti. This install did not start off with the anonymous app header in the install and finally down loaded the 5.27 app with this I received WUs for 5.27.
It seems that the servers do not like starting off with optimizer 2.4 first instead of starting with 5.27. I believe this is what trashed all my 5.17 work units. These 5.17 work units showed as unrecognized and client errors/computation errors when starting up with the 2.4 app rather than the 5.27 and after recognition of the 5.27 trying to optimize.

I will now try optimizing to the 2.4 optimized app

EDIT:
Optimized and still receiving WU downloads. The WU are "xx"mr07aa. but the designation reverted to Setiathome_enhanced5.17 instead of 5.27 or a higher version number than 5.17.

The 03mr07aa in the unit name is year it was recorde4d at Aricebo, all 07's are multibeam. The sensitivity of the MB units is greater that previous enhanced units, the longer deadline reflects this. Although 2 months does seem a long time, but as yet I haven't seen the maths behind this, but from past experience they usually get it right.

OK Andy, I took the hint. However, it's pre-coffee A.M here, and I fell for it. I VNCed to the P60, deleted the app-info and simon-ben-joe, reset seti and now I'm stuck with a machine that (like everyone else) is getting no work and is sitting idle (not that the difference between idle and 100% is all that much). If last time was any indication, it won't make the deadline this time either and I'd have lost 2 months (1/6th of a year)processing. LOL
