Then please present your reasons, with evidence, again, please. Because I do not remember a full-blown proof that that's the main cause of all our problems.

You can use the search function as well as I can. I'm not reposting all that again. Start with the comment when cRunchy seemed incredulous that red x'ers would complain about moderation, when Kenzie got axed.

Again, it is my understanding that he never took any actions as a moderator.

Could be, how would we ever know? You know, because keeping secrets helps lessen the issues here.

Heh.

Rush

[quote]As I have reminded people recently, I was autobanned for excessive thread creation September 26, 2006 --- the day the BOTD debate boiled over and Matt L. asked us if the Cafe needed to die. (After seeing that logic and offering pros and cons no one else had, or just saying aye or nay to certain points, was futile, I tried to inject humor into the Cafe, made a lot of threads to do so and ... bam ... banned.)

Funny, you say: "Oh, and I have difference of opinion with you about all big problems here being merely over difference of opinion," and yet, here was a difference of opinion that resulted in your being banned.

I am saying I sense that OVERALL, less of it has to do with differences of opinions than to do with something else. More below about my ban.

Not because you posted an overt threat, not because you posted porn, but because it was someone's opinion that your transgression was sufficient to ban you. 100 bucks says there were a bunch of red x's that day: "Sarge is creating too many threads!! Sarge is creating too many threads!!"

Maybe there were, I have no way of knowing. It'd be pure speculation on both our parts, would it not? Besides, it is my understanding that it was done automatically. Apparently a script was set up to watch for excessive thread creation, after the actions of some long gone poster I have never seen. WordWeaver or something like that?

Most times I try searching here, I get an error message. Sometimes googling it works. Sometimes.

Anyway, a caveat to my previous post. I do not recall how I came to my understanding that it was automatic.
I also recall precisely who followed me into those threads and posted in them. Maybe they red-X'd me that day. Funny, we managed to get past our misconceptions of each other and our differences of opinion.

Rush and his blame the red-X again? Why is it the red-X's fault? Becuz u sez so?

The reasons have been presented to you. Did you wish to present an argument?

Say what you will about Siran, folks, but the fact that he refused his "auto"mod appointment within days showed integrity.

Integrity would have been refusing it instantly. Not playing with it a while until what was already obvious became hideously, painfully, obvious.

My understanding was that he had not been posting, never used mod powers, and when he saw the e-mail from Eric, he came back, posted something along the lines of "What the heck? I'm a mod now?!?" (Or, he never saw the mail, posted, looked at his post and saw the mod tag.) Immediately, people ganged up on him, primarily folks from SETI.USA whom I had hardly seen post in the Cafe. Within about a day, Siran's tag was gone. Again, it is my understanding that he never took any actions as a moderator.

That's what I also experienced.

There was no email indicating that you had become a moderator. Someone informed me of my new tag. Not certain if it was a post, a PM, or an email, and I am not certain which project it came through.

My feeling is that I do the best job that I can.

John, well, the PMs weren't available back then.
It probably was someone saw the tag by your post, knew your addy, and e-mailed you.
Strange that Eric did not send e-mails.

I'm glad you and I are able to discuss things.

( P.S. - get back into the Brain Busters thread, man! :) )

Imagine that, rules causing problems and people clamoring for more rules

Actually, the rules are not being followed by the posters and the posts are not being moded by the rules...

THAT, was, is, and always will be, the problem around here... ;)

Michael Buckingham and Knightmare spring to mind as I must say the boards were better with them as mods then they have been before or since.

They quit because they, by their own admission, couldn't handle it. That isn't a recipe for success.

I beg to differ. I never said that I " couldn't handle it ".

My reasons for quitting the mod position had a lot to do with the amount of time I had to actually do the job properly, and not nearly as much to do with certain behavior by other mods as people seem to think.

I could handle the job....I just didn't have time to " handle " it properly. I would rather have stopped doing it then wind up doing it half assed.

Sod it. I have had enough. I am putting the whole mod team on filter til they get a clue.

Put "the 30" (whatever the hell that actually is) on as well. Guaranteed your life will be much happier.

Hi. I was directed to this thread to ask a question. Why do the threads that are written in Welsh seem to disappear?

That would be a discussion of moderation policy... What I can say as it was translated the person that removed the threads, could say nothing positive for the Forum Threads.

I will also say that as I spoke with Eric on the phone today let him know he was long overdue to come and look at what is posted here...

That's good, and I hope he also reads the deleted threads as well so that he can see for himself the heavy handedness.

Oh, BTW, I have a Green Star.

Yes, he certainly can read deleted threads and posts, and see why those threads/posts were deleted. Maybe he will not agree that it was heavy-handedness.

At this point, I see things that go beyond what the thread was designed for...

I am torn between questions and free speach... At this point I lock the thread...

It becomes Eric Unlocking the thread!
