I was just watching Dateline NBC on TV and they talked about a startling problem. Counterfeit prescription drugs in Pharmacy's. They are appearing in the USA, UK, and Canada. They went on to do their own investigation where they found someone in china willing to do business with them. She openly admitted that it was illegal and there was big profit. They sent over a sample of counterfeit Viagra which was sent to the labs only to find they looked practically identical and that they contained mostly gypsofelium (sp). DRYWALL. The counterfeits easily made it through customs and have already been sent onto the shelves of pharmacies across the USA. China and South America were found to be the leaders in counterfeit drugs production. The U.S. Government can’t catch these criminals over in china nor can they search all these counterfeit drugs shipped over. The Chinese government was unwilling to corporate in catching these criminals. THEY ARE SUPPORTING THESE COUNTERFIT DRUGS AND THEIR PROFITS. Source ~BoB P.S. It’s interesting to read some of the responses to the article... Yep, you may pay out the wazzoo for prescription drugs made in the USA, but the incidence of counterfeit drugs 'Made in the USA' is FAR, FAR smaller. You get what you pay for. |

Most counterfit drugs say MADE IN USA when they are not. The viagra in the first post had the exact same box, shape, and size of the originals. They were also the same price. I belive that it was estimated that $100 Million was made so far on the sales of fake viagra from this one person/company. ~BoB Do you Good Search for Seti@Home? http://www.goodsearch.com/?charityid=888957 Or Good Shop? http://www.goodshop.com/?charityid=888957 |

Allow me to rephrase my statement. It was rather late in the night when I made it. "but the incidence of counterfeit drugs that are actually made in the USA is FAR, FAR smaller". This is why in many cases the importation of drugs is illegal. Pharmaceutical plants in the USA are under somewhat strict quality control regulations. If you start importing these drugs from 3rd-world nations, you lose this protection. Now, by no means ALL of these nation's drug exports are counterfeit, but even in the best of cases they are not held to the same quality standards. Yes, the medicine made in the USA is the most expensive in the world. However, it is also the best in the world. You get what you pay for. Those people who illegally import drugs (whether or not these drugs are what they are supposed to be) from other nations just to improve their profit and resell them in this country pretending to be the genuine article need to go to PMITA prison for a long, long time. |

Yes, the medicine made in the USA is the most expensive in the world. However, it is also the best in the world. You get what you pay for. That's crap. Sure, there is some risk, BECAUSE THE GOV'T CREATED IT. By forbidding Americans from reimporting drugs, they created a huge market, just like with crack and heroin. Drugs worldwide are financed on the backs of the U.S. citizen who is forbidden by law from seeking the best price. As usual, that skrews those who can afford it the least, the most. If the goal is to bring more drugs within range of more people, this skrews them. But oh, right, we're protecting them. From themselves.
