having loaded the BOINC version of SETI the rate at which my PC is getting through work units seems to have dropped dramatically. The CPU usage seems the same as before and the CPU time to crunch a unit seems the same as before. It seems as if something's stopping BOINC from crunching for extended periods when I'm not looking. I think what may be the problem is that BOINC's not running when the (secure) screen saver is on, there's certainly a message saying it can't /display/ the screen saver. Anyone confirm or refute this? Any workarounds? MTIA |

If the load gets high enough, all of the CPU's power will be used to generate the graphics instead of crunching WUs. To solve this problem, DISABLE the screen saver. Goto CONTROL PANEL, DISPLAY PROPERTIES, SCREEN SAVER, select NONE. |

I just upgraded from BOINC v4.05 to v4.08 and I've just noticed this as well. Once the screen saver launches, BOINC stops crunching for a few minutes. It does eventually start crunching again. WinXP nVidia GeForce4 MX 440 |

What is your setting for Do work while computer is in use?. If the answer is "NO", this will stop crunching as your screensaver is active. Or I am wrong? |

It seems to be more than just a few minutes, all but no progress when the (blank screen) screen saver is active. |

OK.! Secure windows desktop detected. You will need to go to the setting of the screensaver and uncheck either password or welcome screen, depending on the OS. This should fix the problem. |
