Hi Folks,

I've seen a number of threads on what appears to be this problem but apparently, I'm too dumb to apply the app_info.xml solution for my platform not found problem.

Are so few people still using older 586-boxen for crunching?

Normaly, the server should send out the application to your system. Did this not work ? Why do you use a app_info.xml ?
Could you please post your app_info.xml here.

Actually, I don't have one. And the server apparently does not recognize "i586-pc-linux-gnu" as a valid platform.

I read about the app_info.xml in some threads related to this platform problem but most of those threads deal with the more exotic architectures and I can't figure out what to put inside app_info.xml to make it work...

Redwolf:

What kernel version are you running? And is your CPU MMX capable?

I'm having this "[SETI@home] Message from server: platform 'i586-pc-linux-gnu' not found" problem and this is a 686 system which used to work ok.
I cannot figure where boinc in getting this i586 stuff.

To answer the original poster:
I think (not 100% sure since I'm not running seti, just helping them) that their precompiled client is a 686 version. This means you will have to download and compile it yourself. After that you have to create an app_info.xml file.

Alternatively you can probably find someone who has compiled it somewhere on the net.
