I need some additional infos for the mail to the devs...
Did everytime the WU resets to 0 % or are sometimes some WUs which continues after the latest checkpoint ?
Do you use CPU throtteling ? - If yes, on which value is the CPU throtteling set ?

all previous WU that be processed with version 518 finished and u/l correctly.
Then, on the WU's with version 521 got the error.
The time between two "exited with zero status but no 'finished' file" errors is around a second so nothing is calculated, i think the WU is checked by the app before computing so the error maybe is there?

see example output here:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=40957&nowrap=true#605420

I'm not using CPU throtteling.

Message 605832 - Posted: 19 Jul 2007, 10:35:11 UTC

This problem started yesterday July 18. I noticed a lot of noise on my hard drive and traced it to BIONC. When I suspended the tasks the drive noise stopped. Resetting the project did not solve problem. Downloaded latest Client I could find (5.10.7) but problem continued. Shut down client over night and restarted this morning (July 19) , problem persists.

last work unit successfully done was July 18, 0:43:17 UTC

I will inform the dev about this problem...
I think that the "Task... exited with zero status but no 'finished' file" is no problem from the application, a upgrade of the BOINC client to the recent version should be a good idea...

Upgrading, downgrading, both do not work. I am thinking there is a problem with the packets being sent out to us. Until I hear otherwise, seti@home stays deactivated on my computer.

FOUND A (TEMP?) SOLUTION

Reset your project, and if all old seti files are gone,
Download OPTIMIZED MAC OS X APPS (10.3.9 and newer) BY ALEX KAN (June 27th, 2006)
d/l here: http://tbp.berkeley.edu/~alexkan/seti/seti_enhanced-ppc-v6-g4-nographics.zip
or: http://tbp.berkeley.edu/~alexkan/seti/seti_enhanced-ppc-v6-g5-nographics.zip
more info here: http://www.marisan.nl/seti/
unzip, copy content of folder to
/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/
select the folder /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/
press "Command+i" (for info), set Ownership and Permissions to Boinc by pressing "Apply to enclosed items"
then run boinc again.
it should d/l new data, but not the seti app.

it runs for me (but not finished computing data yet)
hope this helps until new client is out...

AND IT SEEMS IT RUNS FASTER ???

UPDATE: found newer apps:

http://tbp.berkeley.edu/~alexkan/seti/seti_enhanced-ppc-v7.1-g4-nographics.zip
http://tbp.berkeley.edu/~alexkan/seti/seti_enhanced-ppc-v7.1-g5-nographics.zip

I tried this and it seems to be working...thanks!

The WU resets immediately. There is no time at all for any other unit to start processing. Throttle not used.

I want to chime in and say that I also have the same errors on my 3 older macs that just run seti.

03jn00aa.22690.19602.517322.3.231_0 using setiathome_enhanced version 521

Thu Jul 19 12:47:31 2007|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.

Did everything most others have done and no luck. For now they aren't running seti until a solution is found. At least there are other projects to contribute to in the meantime

*sigh*

Rob, you can ignore this message, if the WU would not reset to 0% and continue crunching from the last checkpoint.

Similar problem on 3 PowerPC Macs last 2 days(?) but the MacTel machine does not have the issue. Restting doesn't help, tried installing the latest client, no help. Unistalled and reinstalled previous version, no help... all Mac OS 10.4.10...

Looks like 522 has fixed the problem (he said, gritting his teeth). I reset the project and 522 came down and started processing with no error messages as before (but some huge completion times!).

However, it did not pull any additional ready to start files. This particular machine is a dual G5, and all it got was the 2 files to run. We'll see how it goes.

I thought I'd give the new version a try, too... but overnight I git mixed results. On one Mac (Power Mac G4/733Mhz Quicksilver 1GB RAM 120GB HD), no work was done alongside Einstein (sharing 50/50) except for the 7 sec. that I manually started (always run) last night via the BOINC app. Then when I restarted it in the app again this morning, the work time reset itself to 0. The Log seems to reset itself every time I open the app, too (something new when the zero status errors began).

On my second (Mac Mini G4/1.33Ghz 1GB RAM 40GB HD), no work had been completed overnight alongside Einstein.

On my third Mac (PowerBook G4/1.0Ghz "Firewire 800" 1GB RAM 60GB HD), 2-some hours had been completed, but that only works out to be part of the night since the app changes every hour between Einstein & SETI.

So I don't know what's going on still. At first it looked promising, but now I'm just totally cornfussed :p ...
Back to Einstein I guess until things are sorted out.....

I added a bit more in another thread.
See http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=41013.

Summary - runs hotter, still no screensaver, weird memory usage.

I agree that 522 needs some additional tweaks.

My dual G5 is running ~95% each CPU, and of that 97% is 'nice' time! No wonder these WUs are taking longer to run. How 'bout giving control of nice back to us as we used to be able to do (long ago).

Yes, granted, it's running, but it still ain't right...

If you are having a problem because the task is 'nice', the solution can be found at

Thanks, Dena.

Unfortunately (in this case) my CPU performance has always been set at Highest, so no help there.

The Widget is cool (showing 94% nice!). CPU temps are 124F and 117F. However, right now my A/C is being replaced, so the house is HOT and those temps are not normal.

Any other ideas appreciated.

I have the same issue now as well as the: "process 159 (or another number) not found" problem. I seem to be getting mutliple issues now, very furstrating and not helping Seti@Home either.

Any thoughts... anyone?

Doug.

As I stated in previous posts in serveral threads, this is not an error or failure. If the progress is not reset to 0 % there is no problem and you can ignore this message.
This message results from a problem in the communication between the BOINC client and the application. Sometimes they can not communicate and this message occurs. At MacOS this occurs otherer as on other plaforms.

I had the same problem- many continuous lines of "exited with zero status but no 'finished' file".

I also tried resetting, detaching, restarting, uninstalling and reinstalling using my previously downloaded installer.

Nothing worked.

Then I tried downloading the installer again and reinstalling and suddenly everything seems to be working again!

It's been about 2 days and I seem to be back to normal, although once again I am getting a lot of "(error) Couldn't write state file: system rename" messages on the Messages screen.

I've got the same problem. MacIntel running on BOINC client 5.10.7 with Alex Kan's 5.18 app.

Notice some changes as well. Just prior to those messsages displayed, loads of RAM being used up to a point that BOINC hanged briefly while connecting to server. Once through, BOINC client reported these errors on the Messages screen with a quarter of a gig RAM of data purged.

Been having this issue for the past days, mostly after new WUs are downloaded with error, but not today, no WUs were downloaded, just reporting results, but the affected WUs did not reset either.

I'm speechless....

This is a total different problem. Your problems are the cause of some server problems. Sometimes WU up- and downloads hang, sometimes up- and downloads working...
