Nice intro Keppler,

Any thoughts on the topic or just your comment about my analogies?

The 'bubble' is a reference to a case years ago of a boy born without a functional immune system. He had to live in total isolation to avoid, quite literally, catching his death.

People making 'living in a bubble' remarks about others are saying that that person is living totally isolated from the 'real world', and therefore they don't know what they are talking about.

In rhetoric, it is a rather bold example of what is known as an ad hominem attack. Ad hominem is latin for 'to the person'. Ad hominem attacks attack the person, rather than their remarks, and usually are used in desperation when one cannot bring logical or factual assault to bear on that person's remarks. So, one tries instead to discredit the person rather than their remarks.

It is almost always considered bad form in a debate or discussion of an issue.

Lets all try to avoid ad hominem attacks here on this forum and keep our discussions civil, ok? Please?

And I see, from your 5 posts in these SETI forums, that your intentions here are generated by something quite different, yet transparent.

Keppler is a big name in science history. Out of respect for your family I say only this:

No, because tort laws have nothing to do with capitalism.

Dogbytes,

I think it (along with some of the rest of my post you quote) might be of benefit to more posters here other than just the moderators. Sadly, these attacks are all too common around here.

Some ad hominem attacks can be quite subtle. Others are unmistakably flames. All are insulting, and should be avoided. Its a moderation nightmare.

Lets all try to treat each other with more respect. Respect for their person. Respect for their point of view, even if (and especially when) one disagrees with it. And respect for their human dignity. In a discussion of an issue, if one can refute someone else's statements with either logic or factual evidence, that is just fine. It is, after all a discussion. It is not fine to just start name-calling.

Further:

All of my posts here are in the form of questions. I have never been political and am prone to make mistakes similar to those of younger persons. I have used catch phrases and promises of payment for proof against because I don't know for sure. I will debate with you but there are always two sides to every story. I may very well be wrong in much, if not all of what I post but can only learn by having people respond to my posts. I am not anti American. I am not a Communist sympathizer. I'm just looking for answers to my questions.

I don't want to fight with anyone for any reason, though I can be grumpy when attacked. I realize many people can't help me in this quest for knowledge and can't put down in writing what I'm looking for, but you must realize I am not an enemy. I love my country. Otherwise I wouldn't question things.

Sorry if the topics pain people. They pain me too!

Having become politically interested for about two weeks wouldn't qualify me for a position on any side. I simply ask for proof and information.

Do you have any? All I see is an attack on my questions here. No responses seen on the issue. I believe you fall into the category of being unable to answer this question.

We are the same age, apparently. I could be wrong but your posts below show a disinterest in the welfare of citizens abroad and for our own troops. I have many friends who were stationed in Germany during some of the same period of time. One of them is boggled by your comments.

Mike Keppler,

I realize that you have strong feelings against Socialism, but please, try to be a little nicer and less confrontational about it. I am not a fan of Socialism either, but as the saying goes, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Other people have a right to their opinions, even if you, I, or anyone else disagrees with those opinions. Please, be a little more respectful of others, ok?

MrGray,

If Mike Keppler continues harassment of you, please don't respond. Use the red-x, and let the moderators handle it.

@ Everyone,

Please, I realize that sometimes, opinions on various political subjects run high. However, there is no reason why any of us cannot treat our fellow posters here with anything less than respect. Please avoid personal attacks (flames) on each other.

Thank you.

Thanks KWSN - MajorKong,

I'll never hit the red button.
I will never sue anyone.
I just want answers.

Thanks for doing your job here. You are appreciated, and overworked, yet recognized by many as a great MOD.

I'd rather find things out on the net than get in a fist fight in real life over something I am wrong about.

;)

Though it's off-topic in this thread, I will answer you here.
I - being grown up there - can you even tell why. There was actually no reason except the blinding fairy tales seen on West German TV channels and told in West German radio channels that made East German people believe they had it better in the Western part. When the Wall came down, and Germany united again, those who believed these fairy tales were the first ones who wished the Wall back asap. They'd never believed stories about the gap between poor and rich, about unemployment, about homeless people, about people begging in the streets unless they saw it themselves. We in East Germany had no unemployment, no poor people (well not that gap between poor and rich) and a social system earning that name.

You remember the East German uprising in June 1953? The West Berlin based radio station RIAS, together with some other West German senders, jammed all East German radio channels and first made the East Berlin workers discontent with the actual conditions; then after they began to strike, RIAS spread the lie that the East German government had surrendered and left their country alone. This lead to a rebellion which only could be stopped by the help of the Soviet Army and their tanks. Now tell me who controlled RIAS back in the cold war.

Well - I can also explain you this if you want. And I don't know which parts of Germany you've seen when you've been there. Maybe it's your impression because you expected nothing better, maybe you really saw only the ugly parts. When I visit New York City and only see the Bronx I also will be heavily disappointed of Big Apple.

This is the depleted uranium rounds thread.

Make a socialist thread so you can have it out.

Propaganda and bad intel is in this section too.

;)

I'll be there watching.

So build another wall. Encompass all of Germany. You have the technological know how and you have the experience.

And once again there will be almost no gap between poor and rich.
