My homeland was attacked

And here we uncover the first flaw in your thinking process:

Now THAT's one of the funniest things I read in a LONG LONG time!!

Anyone else note the hilarity here?

This isn't YOUR country, this is OUR country... And WE don't all believe as YOU do... ;)

You can believe what ever your tiny little propaganda filled mind can dream up......doesn't change the FACT that "our" country was attacked on 9/11 by radical Islamic terrorists from the middle east.

The problem with a general "politics" forum on a GLOBAL message board should be obvious......

When most of the world doesn't agree with your ideology and more than half of your own country doesn't agree with your ideology, don't you think that it might be time to start admitting that your ideology is wrong rather than cutting off and/or destroying those who don't share in your ideology...

Personally, I think a GLOBAL message board was a blessing, although I can see why some wouldn't agree... ;)

The wonderful thing about Democracy is that NO, I do not have to give up my system of beliefs because the Democrats finally won an election after 12 years of Republican rule.

All I have to do is wait for the fallout of them raising taxes then raising the minimum wage, successfully hurting the entrepreneur rather than actually helping the poor (because the raised taxes), INSTEAD of ending the war or even slowing it down like they promised the political fools who still haven't figured out the rules of the game.

As far as the rest of the world, envy is such a terrible emotion. Talk all the trash you want, but don't attack our civilian population!

What am I to be envious of? Are you saying that my country is worse than yours? And no, I am not of middle east origin. I am Australian/English. I have been told part of my family traces back to the convicts.

There can be only one #1 and I don't see anyone comparing their country to Australia. Now that's certainly not a knock against you or your country, but I won't apologize for being proud of mine either.

Nothing wrong with being proud of your country. But your statement could be read that everyone is envious of the US. Which I'm not. I am happy here. And the terms or definitions of what makes a country the number 1 is subjective to a person views. Just don't go overboard, otherwise that is when the resentment starts as others get sick of hearing "We are better than you.....".

You may think of us as being 'down under' since we are in the southern part. However, we think we (Australia and perhaps our Kiwi neighbours) are actually on top of the world and you are actually near the bottom. This view can be backed be simply looking at the planet. Where you stand anywhere the planet curves down from you so your view makes you think you are on top and everyone is down below.

But Australia is number one when it comes to dangerous creatures. Seems the majority of the world's most dangerous/venomous critters decided to call Australia home. Lucky us.

I'm sure if that is the case you'll let us be number one in this regard, or should we ship them all over to you?

Never surrender and never give up. In the darkest hour there is always hope.

I agree to this statement in sports. In Politics and Socio-Economics there can only be a "together" to be in balance

the belief that there is a #1 in politics etc already has existed in the past: in the theory of the "Herrenrasse"

Actually it's called Nationalism:
1 : loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially : a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations or supranational groups.

Remember my comment about accepting your opinions as long as you DO NOT try to redefine terms?

If you assume that every statement I make applies to every single person on the planet, then you're going to get REALLY sick of me before I leave the board again. It was a general comment and in no way, shape, or form meant to encompass the entire global population. I assumed the comment about attacking our civilian population would have EXCLUDED basically every region on the planet outside of the middle east....but hey, I went to American schools, so what do I know :)

Yep, that's why man invented the concept of North and South. It helps us to define a "top and bottom" of the world.

Interestingly enough, I HAVE always been fascinated with the wildlife of Australia.

I'm sure if that is the case you'll let us be number one in this regard, or should we ship them all over to you?

If you're talking for free, then yeah, there are several species of Australian wildlife I'd like to see in real life.....

Hey, I went to a public school, so that means I know nothing as well. At least that's what the kids that went to private schools used to say. Believe me, lots public and private school kids don't get along.

Then again I have heard that some countries 'suggest' to their kids that Aussies are lazy, stupid etc. I remember that some also consider Australia a third world country.

I didn't take offense and wasn't trying to give it. Just a friendly warning, as not everyone is understanding. Some are thin-skinned and are quick to find offense in the smallest and littlest things.

Top and bottom. Matter of view. As long as you don't call my country the toilet of the world then we should not have a problem. I guess you would not have seen some of the Fourex (XXXX) and VB beer ads. They are funny sometimes. Current VB ad calls Australia 'the world's biggest BBQ' and that here the snags (sausages) are cooking themselves.

Sending wildlife to you would be a problem. Australian customs and quarantine are tough and strict (maybe more than the US, but this could be due to smaller people movement). I remember when the free trade between the US and Australia was being worked out the US wanted us to relax our systems. They were too tough in their views. Luckily the Australian government said no.

As far as "attacking" American politics, I think it's much simpler than that and really boils down to knowledge. Reading the NY Times is a lot different than living in New York City and no amount of creditable/news worthy resources/history/research will change that.

It's understandable that an American would be upset if someone who isn't a citizen criticizes America or its policies in a forum that's in America.

Works both ways.

Late last year the opposite happened on the Australian Yahoo7 forum boards. These boards were setup mainly for Australians and I'm told reside in Australia. I never saw it but the aftermath suggested that it wasn't pretty when several Americans started criticizing Australia. I think they ended up flaming the boards as well.

So respect each other.

I understand perfectly, no offense taken or intended. My comment was that America is #1, not that Australia is the toilet of the world (I think that's actually somewhere in Iran.)

More like someone criticizing President Bush for practicing Unitary Executive Powers without understanding it's a part of the Constitution or criticizing him for invading the middle east without understanding that congress gave the President full authority to use military force in the war against terror with a nearly unanimous vote.

Being critical of our decisions is considerably different than understanding why those decisions are made.
