Hello everybody,

(G5 1,6MHz, 1,25Gb RAM, MacOS 10.3.5)

Had the impression I saw the following topic already discussed, but couldn't find an answer to it.

How come that about 40% of my classic workunits are missing? I joined August, 28th and am still trying to download a prober BOINC version and install it.
I must admit, I'm not an expert when it comes to use the terminal. Unless I misunderstood and the file I downloaded (4.05. for MacOS X) is an installer and seems corrupt.

Thanks and cheers,

Lawd from Luxembourg.

When they started BOINC, they essentially took a snapshot of SETI Classic at that time, but the numbers aren't tied dynamically to the Classic database. Hence, it shows only the credits at the time of the snapshot.

I don't know what the plans are in the long run, but hopefully when Classic ends they can take a final snapshot of the data and update the Classic numbers in the BOINC system.

When you download the file it should be unpacked by Stuffit Expander. (make sure you have the most recent version).

- Place that file in a folder wherever you want it. (for easy typing change the name of the file to something simpler like boinc_4.05 or boinc_seti)
- Open a terminal window.
- type cd (small letters)
- drag the folder you placed the file in, into the terminal window and hit return.
- In the terminal type chmod +x boinc_4.05 (or whatever it is named) - this makes it so it can run. Hit return
- now type ./boinc_4.05 (or the name) and hit return. It will then prompt you to enter the URL and your key that you received in your confirmation e-mail.

If you have a G4 or G5 Mac, you may want to check out the special compiles located at:
http://members.dslextreme.com/~readerforum/forum_team/boinc.html

These are optimized compiles that may provide improved performance for altivec capable CPU's. If you have any questions about them, please visit the Macnn forums, the link is on that page.

The best Macintosh team ever.
