Sirs:

Since the upgrade to the Boinc version, the "SETI @ home" part of the display does not move around the screen, so now I've got "SETI @ home" burned into the screen on my CRT monitor.

So much for the Screen Saver function.

I'll just start using the monitor power switch as my screen saver.

This has been a common problem (one that has been much debated).

You could always change your monitor power settings to power down your monitor after some time. I have mine set to power off my monitor after 30 minutes. This way I can see the screen saver, but I can save power too (and not burn-in my screen).

Too bad the project can't read .gif files, then you could use an animated "SETI @ Home" logo... (mine would be rotating!)

.

Hello, from Albany, CA!...

I think that this is a great idea. There's no reason why this can't be programmed into the app (I don't know if it's the science app or BOINC - I think it's the science app).

John M VII, any chance of this?

What? Who? Me? I haven't looked at the S@H science app. Unless there is a library to load GIFs that can be linked to C++ code, it is a bit unlikely to get written. I do know that GIFs are a pain to read (I wrote some write and read code a bit over a decade ago - it took a couple of months to get right, and that did not even deal with animated GIFs).

Isn't that code already there? I mean, the SETI@Home logo as part of the stock science app simply reads the seti_527.jpg file from the application directory. Or is it entirely different for animated GIFs?

Even if it isn't you that does the code, would you have the ability to request this feature with someone directly in the development staff?
