Seti seems to be crashing(returns to the User Login Display;when re-booted,displays "Windows has recovered from a serious error",but error log is corrupted) my machine after having worked fine for years.
I have suspended Seti meanwhile, and the machine stable again,so I know it is my Seti screensaver!
Where do I start looking?
What are the suggested "preferences"?
(Windows XP,normal household PC)
Thanks guys!

If it was working fine for while but then started causing crashes, my guess would be that your system is getting dusty.

After a time, dust can build up inside a computer and collect around the fans and other areas that are designed to keep a system cool. The dust acts as an insulator and keeps heat in the system, which can cause memory errors and crashes constantly.

Since SETI uses all your spare processing power, your system is running at full power, thus creating more heat and requiring sufficient cooling. Turning off SETI returns the system to it's idle state, putting out less heat and causing no crashes.

SETI is not the only application that uses the system at full power, though. Any high end application or game will do the same and you'll get crashes then too. SETI is, however, the only application that will release the CPU when the user needs it (SETI runs at a low priority so that it appears transparent to the user).
