I just started SETI@home last night, however the tasks only get to a portion of % complete and restart. Is this normal?

No, it is not normal.

Could you post some of the message log surrounding the restart? about 10 messageson each side should be sufficient.

1) Is your computer a Dual core/cpu or hyperthreaded? It appears that you are running two WUs at once.

2) What version of BOINC are you running? Can you upgrade to the latest version?

This is what it says for CPU under my profile:

GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz [x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9] [fpu tsc sse mmx]

2) What version of BOINC are you running? Can you upgrade to the latest version?

Version is 5.8.16

Under his account, his computer ID shows "Number of CPUs: 2", so he has an HT compatible CPU.

I don't usually suggest this, but you might try the current test version that can be downloaded from here

I am having this same problem. Have been doing work for only a month, BONIC 5.8.1.6 ran multy tasks at once. Laptop was smoken hot, lost work etc, I downloaded 5.4.1.1 worked OK. It still ran harded than I liked. So I reinstalled 5.8.1.6 Rosetta worked perfectly, SETI contunied to give message timeouts, dumping all work done to that point. Some 8 hrs, 99%+. Will try latest test version, as mentioned, then its back to 5.4.....
