Yes, the last of the old style data which had never been run before got split yesterday. Matt said we would be revisiting some of the older tapes which didn't get fully run in Classic for one reason or another (See Tech News). I'm sure they will try to avoid the ones which got used previously for 'busy work'. In any event, these 'old timers' are all there is at the moment until the multibeam stuff is ready for primetime. So if 'fresh' SAH is what you're looking for Beta is the only game in town. Alinator |

i think the old WUs are cunnching more than enough............. According to Matt, we're still going through units that haven't been crunched or haven't been crunched by the new, more sensitive Enhanced app, which might make some data being re-crunched worth it. Otherwise, any claim that we're just being fed just to be fed is speculation and not absolute. i think i have crunched this also with my old Athlon 300 i think............ The Athlon's started at 500MHz. ;-) if there is no new Material.... please let us know.... Please read the latest excerpt from Matt Lebofsky's Technical News post, which states: I put in the last tape image today that had yet to be split by both SETI@home Enhanced and SETHI (Eric and Kevin's hydrogen project - see Kevin's posts for more info). So now we're going back to splitting really old data that had only been analyzed partially by old versions of the classic clients, so there is some scientific merit for doing so. However, we're really pushing to get multibeam data out to the general public. I spent a chunk of the data fighting to compile the current code (mostly to ramp up on what Eric/Jeff have been doing so I can lend a programming hand). What's left to do is trivial on paper but pesky in practice. than i can change my computer to other Projects..... You keep asking this question, and the answer has already been given, which would almost seem as if you don't believe the answers given. If you do not believe what the project scientists are telling all of us, then why wait any longer? I don't mean to be rude, but what other solution is there if you won't listen to available answers? Yes, the last of the old style data which had never been run before got split yesterday. It's as if you're looking for new responses when nothing has changed. |

Yes, the last of the old style data which had never been run before got split yesterday. thanks than i will try the Beta... i think the WUs fon 1999 are too often in this, and are crunched too many times @OzzFan you are not long enough into this... to know all... Greetings from Germany NRW Ulli |

Ulli, don't take this the wrong way, but have you kept a record of every unit you have crunched? It was said months ago, that until multibeam data becomes mainstream, we will be given old tapes that would benefit from the new enhanced SETI app. Before you have a go, saying that I have not been crunching for long enough as you did to Ozzfan, actua;y read the posts. |

@OzzFan Length of time does not determine how much one knows. It does not matter how long I've been here anymore than it matters how long you've been here. What matters is reading, listening and learning. Unless you can refute what Matt Lebofsky said, I'm afraid your opinion is just an opinion based upon your perception and nothing more. Please do not insist anything otherwise. |

I agree with OzzFan, Matt has been here before SETI was released. I am sure he knows what has been successfully crunched and what has not. I believe Matt and what he says. 1999 software was very basic to what today's software is. In fact Classic changed software several times. Even if it was crunched back then, do we know that data was saved in a master database, since it was early days? Was the data crunched in a way that really made any sense? So what if we are rehashing stuff, go somewhere else if you do not want to redo it. I am glad to crunch data here, but I crunch other places, too. I think the team is doing an excellent job for the lack of money, manpower, hardware, time, etc. they have. Give these guys a break. They are only human, and they can only work with what they have. They do not have unlimited funds, or people working for them. If they did, we would have no work to do, because all the work would be done by them. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

@OzzFan You should really CALM down a bit! If you want to pinpoint knowlegde about seti/boinc to the day one joined here ... well have look at mine and compare it to yours. (now what ?) Now here's the thing... Ozzfan and Poobear are right and you're wrong. This whole complaining about the 99 wus has been allready made clear to you more than once. Still you cannot stop complaining instead of reading the "WHY's" ... Join BOINC United now! |

The data I'm putting in now has only gone through the whole system once a long time ago using clients that didn't do as deep an analysis as Enhanced and in most cases the set of final results were incomplete (failed redundancy checking, database problems, etc.). Still, it is at least partially redundant and therefore there are diminishing returns to sending these workunits out again. There are two schools of thought: keep users happy at all costs (since they are our most precious resource), or do the most scientifically useful thing regardless of effect on short-term public interest. Both sides have valid arguments. It's tough making such decisions. you are in since 2002, look at your profile Sir Ulli, I'm very aware of my start date. Pointing it out bears nothing on the conversation at hand other than an attempt to make yourself correct simply because you started before me. I do not buy the notion that if one is older they are automatically wiser simply because they have more experience. This is a very false pretense. Please, do not insist otherwise. It only makes the one insisting look foolish. A start date does not indicate that you are more correct over me. If you will not listen to reason, then do what you think is best, but please spare the rest of us, or at least spare me the "I know because I've been here longer" speech. I only buy into facts, not start dates and one's perspective based upon such. |

@ everyone: Please, let's not turn this into a flame or bickering fest. Surely we can resolve this as intellectuals? Mention facts and facts only would be nice. |
