I have a group (right now its just me and my two computers) for fellow Oregonians called Oregonians. If you want to join that would be great because then we can not only represent SETI but we can represent the great state of Oregon.

nice!! but one thing I've never understood:

what are the benefits of joining a group? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, by any means! I've just never looked into it, and like the idea of deepening my involvement with the SETI community. Oregon is great! They filmed two great movies there!! (Goonies and Kindergarten Cop!!)

that would have worked if you hadn't stopped me

Hiya Melt.

Groups, or "teams" as it normally is refered to, is just something fun for everyone to do. There are some teams here that compete against others, and then there are teams that are just for fun. If you click on pretty much anyone's profile, you can see the different teams that people are with. You can also go to the home page, and click on "Top Teams" far right hand upper part of the screen, and see who the top teams are that crunch for this project. You don't have to be a member of any team if you don't want to, obviously. But you can also join a team that interests you, and your credits from the time you join till you no longer crunch or quit the team will go to that particular team. Some teams do get-togethers, many have team boards, just lots and lots of stuff out there.

Hope that helps, a little.

I, myself, didn't find a team that I really felt like I fit into. That's why I started my own ( with a little prodding from Enigma ).

There are advantages to being on a team ( especially a smaller one ) like the general comraderie that can be found.

Some teams are competitive and want huge numbers. Some teams are just in it for the fun of it.

You would simply have to choose which you would prefer. :-)
