Recently I've had problems with 2 of my 4 rigs, which meant some new hardware in one and a complete OS reinstall on both (the original OEM OS install). On reattaching to the project the computers show up as new rigs, which it seems impossible to merge with their originals. How can I get all the computers in my Account to be shown in a merging session? This is so I can pick the ones I know are the same and merge them? The usual way of selecting the computer to merge just ends up with no lists, and, therefore, no merge occurring! It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

Recently I've had problems with 2 of my 4 rigs, which meant some new hardware in one and a complete OS reinstall on both (the original OEM OS install). Once the results have disappeared under the old ID , the "merge this computer" option should be available for it. (i.e. From memory you have to initiate the option for the Old ID, not the new one ). The one exception is if there are any of the 'stale results' blocking the process... but some people have reported that these seem to be disappearing too. I had the fortune of doing a successful merger after OS install not that long ago. After that I did some major hardware upgrades on the same machine, but this went smoothly as the same ID ( the boinc folder was kept ) Good luck and happy waiting for those results to clear :D [P.S. which of your machines are the old IDs?.. I can take a look if you like] at least this one of yours should be mergeable now. Can you see this option at the bottom ? "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. at least this one of yours should be mergeable now. Can you see this option at the bottom ? This illustrates the problem I see ... Clicking on the "merge this computer" leads me to the following screen - ======================================================================= Merge host HOME PARTICIPATE ABOUT COMMUNITY YOUR ACCOUNT STATISTICS Sometimes BOINC assigns separate identities to the same computer by mistake. You can correct this by merging old identities with the newest one. Check the computers that are the same as bllr0071 (created 25 Oct 2005 0:04:55 UTC, computer ID 1568781): name created computer ID Select all Unselect all HOME PARTICIPATE ABOUT COMMUNITY YOUR ACCOUNT STATISTICS ======================================================================= Which can be found at here. As can be seen there is no other computers to select and merge with! What I want to see is a complete list of all my rigs, so that I can select the ones I want to merge before merging them. Where can I go to get this facility? It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

... Hmmm, It may be there is too much difference for it to merge that way, Once things are stabilised It would be worth contacting the online help people ( never used them myself ) as I have read posts in the past that they can fix a merge... [ If someone could point to how to get to this service it might be good :D ] [One more thought, just for the sake of completion have you also tried merging from the newid to the oldid ? ( reverse of other way ? ) Could it be only no result pages will show in the merge list ? opposite way from i remember it, though. :D] "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. Hi, I am trying to merge two of my hosts and I do not understand why they are "incompatible": Processing server.odelcourt.dyndns.org Can't merge host 1597077 into 3415389 - they're incompatible Nothing has change, I have just, one day, do some cleaning in the boinc directory after having finished all the workunit (in resume, stop boinc, delete all files but the boinc_client and restart - I have do it on two others hosts and the merge were successfull...) Thanks |

Hi, Yea same issue that i have.. I can't merge two installs though the client and s@h client were the same. Annoying as hell cause my old client managed to make it up to past 900000 credits and i really want my present one merged with the old one.. Rather frustrated about that really.. //Vyper _________________________________________________________________________ Addicted to SETI crunching! Founder of GPU Users Group |

BOINC!!?? More distressing than not working... Why am I seeing the 'Merge by host name' command when I look at other peoples' computer listings? ;-) Perhaps not working is a good thing. :-) <edit> Fortunately, it's seems the link redirects you back to your own account, but I don't think it's a good idea to be putting it up when looking at anyone else's account. Matt said the following in his 'technical news' post on May 30th..... People have noted that the "merge hosts" website functionality is broken. I confirmed this and informed David who, as I am typing, is looking into it. I would guess that it may not be fixed yet, but I didn't see any post about the problem since then. Any progress, Matt? I have a computer which has undergone no changes to OS or hardware, but which now has several host IDs that can't be merged. They started during the ghosting after the big outage. I suppose I could wait until all work under the ghost systems times out and delete them, but I would rather merge them to preserve the work stats. Anyone know how I can either merge these, or revert to the oldest host ID? Thanks. |

I have a computer which has undergone no changes to OS or hardware, but which now has several host IDs that can't be merged. They started during the ghosting after the big outage. you can't revert to the oldest just the newest, I know its a pain to lose a nice low host ID but that is just the way that it works. all it takes is small diffrences to stop a merge, diffrent os, diffrent client version, changed host name durring OS install, and some others im sure. |

The system in question has an uptime of 287 days so clearly it has the same OS major and minor versions. Network settings have not changed. The core client hasn't been touched. The app hasn't been touched. I did manage with some subtle hackery to get it to start working on the oldest host ID again. I'll lose the couple thousand credits done under the various new IDs, but that is OK. I just didn't want to lose track of the bulk of the host credits. Now I can just wait for all work under the newer IDs to time out, and I can delete them. All will be happy again soon. |

Same problem here: During the last outage I detached from the project and reattached. Nothing else, no new system version, just detach and reattach. Now I cannot merge these, although they aree the exact same computers: Processing martins-computer.local Any ideas? |

As there seems (to my humble mind) to be no reason to make mergers of not-100%-equal clients impossible, BOINC staff would be very kind to make that easier. I have several clients on my account too that can not be merged, though being similar systems (but with different levels of service packs integrated). I do not care for low client ID-#s, but would love to see the work done on the same HW also to be shown just like that. Or IS there a reason why a user should not merge two hosts that are not identical but, say, with different windows versions or CPUs installed? I see no scientific, competitive or other reason whatsoever. |

I track machine performance on BOINCstats. Having a machine split off multiple times makes it a right mess. I need to be able to keep a machine to be a single machine. Dublin, California Team: SETI.USA |
