I guess being a member since 2000 and spending most of my tally clocking up the old seti program, i wish when it was converted to Boinic we recieved BIONIC credits not just a post of OLD seti CLASSIC units.
When you spend over 5 years crunching then the BIG switch to Bionic happens,i wish maybe they thought of that a little more and gave us Bionic credits properly :(.
I guess im just talking to myself, but i just lose interest these days it just seemed alot more fun....I hope they rethink that method and all us old users who put in alot of effort really get the credit we deserve...

Just an old seti user upset :(......

The science is different. There is no way to count the FlOPS you did. It's been explained a few times, in a few places.

Think of it as a sports team, yes you have last years stats, but they get put in an archive, and now you are starting over. The stats are not lost, but preserved.

If you get a nice signature, you can proudly show your classic work. Mine shows it.

I understand the science is different and thank you for your input. I just wish they could of done something a little different to compensate our work i'm sure thre must be some sort of way to convertolder units.

Thanks again for your post.......

This is a very, very old discussion and has been debated since Boinc's started in development and has been rehashed many times after Classic officially shutdown. There is no conversion factor possible and the Seti-Classic will remain in your account only as a memento of past contribution.

The old system counted the number of WU done as 1 point whether it took 1 second or 100 hr to do and the number of hours dedicated to Seti. The new system gives credits for the amount of work required to analyze a work unit and can range from .01 to 100 cobblestone. Also the science application itself is very different and does a more thorough scan of the WU to extract much weaker signal then was ever possible with the old Seti.

The amount of credits received is also calibrated against the other 40 or so Boinc projects so that you receive comparable credits for the same amount of work done whichever projects you crunch for.

Two points that were missed.

1) There were several versions of the Classic S@H that did different amounts of science and took different amounts of time to complete.

2) There were several known ways to cheat and get credits without actually doing the science. Not all of the cheaters have been removed from the old scores, and there is a distinct lack of manpower to root them all out.
